Tim HeraldBIG buff photo...any guesses on size?
Anyone care to throw out a guess on how wide this guy is? This is a wild buffalo that was photographed a couple of weeks ago and is still out there somewhere. I know I have never seen anything like him on the hoof, so can just say he is BIG, and I love the fact that he is also broomed on the tips.

RidgemanDamm big for sure.
I know one thing - you're probably gonna get pestered to reveal his whereabouts as I'm sure there are plenty who would like the opportunity to hunt him.
Hell, I'd even settle for his busted up old mate - nice old boss and plenty of character.

DLSWhat an incredible old bull. Look at the right side of his face. Is he missing his right eye or just squinting? Looks like what is left of his right ear is just a mangled remnant. I'd guess 46-47" wide. Looks to be quite old.
I also like his Buddy, another bull with character.

SaeedShooting a big bull happens purely by chance.
The biggest bull I have shot was by pure luck.
We have been hunting Chete for years, and never saw this.
One afternoon we were driving to a leopard blind, and right in front of us, crossed 2 bulls.
We jumped out of the truck, and shot both.
One had a broken horn, and still measured 49!
The whole thing did not last more than a few minutes

Tim HeraldSaeed I think you are right 99% of the time. I think it is that way with a lot of big animals. You have to be out there to be lucky.
DLS- yes they said his eye was messed up. I guess there were 8 old completely hard-bossed bulls together. He just really stood out on width.

Black LechweBoth bulls are fantastic!
In a similar line... how's this young bull? He's in Liwonde National Park in Malawi, living the life until lions arrive next year!
I for one don't buy the whole South African game breeding thing about selective breeding buffalo for horns size- 'superior genetics' as they call it. Every wild herd with a good bull has bulls and cows with small horns that also breed...

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.
