RiaanLocal water hole in Dar?
Hi to all,
Any info on where one could go in Dar to meet PH's and Photo Guides who are "between safaris"?
Is there a hotel or restaurant frequented often by this community?

nkonkaSea Cliff does still get their share, specifically the Karambezi Bar which is found by going through the casino entrance.
But, if you wish to find them letting their hair down and trying to unwind then check out Q Bar or The Irish Pub. Any cabbie will get you there. These are not so spit and polish.

shakariIt was great to meet Mike and his charming wife - hopefully, we'll run into each other again!
Seacliff is usually the best place and to me, the nicest...... but whether it'll be open at the beginning of the season is debateable. - They'e trying their hardest though.
Even if it's not, the Seacliff Village and Seacliff apartments are open.
My guess is that enen if the main hotel isn't open, the Karambezi will be........
When will you be there?

RiaanSteve,
No specific date yet. I'm in Afghanistan at the moment, and dreaming of Africa.
During the early part of July I'll be hunting with my boys and some friends down South, but I'm toying with the idea of doing a 4 x 4 "backpack" trip up the east coast at some time. This will obviously not be a hunting trip - just a month of killing time in nice places with nice people.

shakariIf you time it right, you could make the great migration in the Serengeti........ now that really is sight to behold!!!!!!!
25 April 2008, 18:34
RiaanSteve, when would you consider the best time for the migration?
25 April 2008, 18:53
Bwana NderoboI was told that the Sea Cliff burned down last October. I was there in September, and has a great time at the Karambezi Bar. Just watch out for the ladies of the evening (and afternoon for that matter!!). BN

shakariIt's not possible to predict exact timing because it all depends on the rains, but Mama tells me we're going to be there in late July and hope to catch it then........... Ian Goss is also going to be with us, so maybe we can meet up?

RiaanThanks for the info. Being an "Afrigan" implies that I can't make very definite plans, as the local conditions can be fairly fluid. Experiencing the migration will be an great moment.

shakariNo problem..... if you can make it, just send us an e-mail to shakari@mweb.co.za - we get online every day with a B Gan anyway.

nkonkaYes, the Sea Cliff burned last year. No, it did not close completely.
The Karambezi was serving very cold beer, and quite nice scots whisky last oct and nov when I was there. The food wasn't half bad either.
The sea cliff village, right next door, proved to be a very comfortable place to stay as well. The casino was open as well.

Early August was the time I saw the migration.

AtkinsonThe Sea cliff is the local watering hole in Tanzania..I have gotten sick there a couple of times, so I usually only eat breakfast there, then go to town to several resturants I know there..I would rather be in hunting camp than in Dar for sure.

He's pretty chipper...... although he does have a bit of a dodgy leg since he stuffed it up chasing some poachers a few years ago.....

SpringSince the Sea Cliff burned, where is the best place to stay in Dar when you've got a night there?
29 April 2008, 10:01
shakariStill the Seacliff....... but as the main hotel might not be open, use the Seacill village. - Book early if you can though.....
