Two suspected poachers at the weekend allegedly shot and killed and dehorned two black rhinos at Ruware Ranch in Chiredzi.
However, the two suspects were intercepted by five game rangers from the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority at Mkwasine Estates who managed to recover the horns after the poachers fled.
The suspects left behind a .303 rifle after being cornered by the rangers. Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Fibeon Nyambo on Monday said they were hunting for the poachers in a joint operation with the Parks authority.

HighbrassThanks for the post Kathi. I know evertyone is doing their best to slow down the problem and I am very happy they caught the offenders. Poaching this year in Zimbabwe has been a big problem especially with the countrys current economic conditions. I hope I am wrong in my assesment but the outlook for Black Rhino will continue to deteriorate if the funds are not their to support the anti poaching teams and government game scouts.

who managed to recover the horns
and did what? Stuck them back on the dead rhinos? I assume that these were NOT dehorned?
Peter.
