2005 Late Season Elephant Hunts - Deka Tail Zimbabwe
I hope nobody minds me posting this for Buzz Charlton, they appear to indeed be true/good deals that maybe somebody on AR can take advantage of. I read on another post where Keith Atcheson also has a late season deal elsewhere in Zim worthy of consideration. I am not familiar with the area or circumstances, please email Buzz Charlton with any questions. He's hunting tuskless with Will now in Chewore North, and should be around by the weekend depending on when Will finishes up.

Buzz's email is buzz@cmsafaris.com

From Buzz: These hunts are in Deka tail which borders Wankie [Hwange] National Park. They have boreholes pumping water and there are good ele bulls coming in from the park. One should get 50lbs with a chance at bigger. The quota has just come through now which is late in the season, that is why the prices are low. Added bonus is road transfer from Vic Falls is 2 hours by car.

Bill,
Where is the Deka Tail Area relative to the Guwi River? Or some other landmark such as Safari Lodge (big hotel in park)

Thanks,

I believe the Deka tail is on the north side of Hwange and east of Matetsi (see map below):

If I did not already have an elephant hunt scheduled, I would go.

I shot my first elephant at Deka, and my first buffalo too.

It is seperated from some of the Matetsi concessions by the Deka River. Last time I hunted Matetsi - 2001 - we saw the biggest waterbuck I have ever seen just inside our conecession, a few hundred yards from teh Deka River.

Sadly, we have already shot all the ones on our quota.

Sorry for the delay in responding. From Buzz, per Terry's map above: "Deka Tail is a 250 km2 long, thin area on the Eastern Boundary of Hwange National Park. The area runs North to South for 65km including a 45km boarder with Hwange, and East to West for 10km. The area has lots of boreholes attracting animals in from the park. Hope this helps with the queries!!"
