Fallow BuckLimpopo Fly Fishing?
Would any of the locals know if there is any fly fishing to be had in the limpopo say May time?
Obviously the crocs are an issue I would assume? I was reading a rod review where someone had fished for Yellowfish I think and thought it may be worth looking into.
If so what sort of fish are there and how difficult is the fishing?

Safari-HuntFallow,
Fly fishing in limpopo itself or the limpopo province ?
If in limpopo river there isnt to much to catch as it is too cold for most of the species.
If in limpopo province there quite a bit of waters with trout winter fishing and then you could also try for Carp.
Yellow fish is to be found more south in the country.

shakariMost of the Limpopo will be dry at that time of year...... unless you can find an area that's dammed. you can expect large catfish and a selection of tilapia etc........ the fish here aren't anywhere near as educated as they are in the UK and are fairly easy to catch...... however, you'll have a lot more success with a bait than you will with a fly...... I'm hunting the Tuli block for pretty much all of next month and camp is beside a nice dammed piece of the Limpopo, so I'll be taking a selection of rods...... I'll be after the BIG catfish and more importantly, I hope to hook into a flatdog or two....... and will be using a shark fishing set up just in case........
Forgive my ignorance. I'm not familiar with that area (I know where it is, but I don't know what kind of wildlife lives there). I had asked about throwing out a big line into the Zambezi for catfish, and was told that it just wasn't allowed from that camp as the croc's were unpredictable... I'm not sure I'd want to wade in any body of water in Africa...call me a pussy I guess!

Safari-HuntMark,
It would not be a good idea to wade in the Limpopo yes but not all rivers in SA has got crocodiles just like not having a highjacker on every street corner almost

Some of the mountain streams are just perfect for trout. With no crocs!
I'm leaving tomorow again for a week of fishing just hope I dont freeze my arse too much that darn fish just beter decide to bite during the day and not night but well see.
