Jeff AlexanderHow big is this Sable?
This is one of two big sables at the San Diego Zoo. How big do you think it is?

Safari-HuntVery nice I'm not an expert on sable but my guess would be 42"

ForrestBBig enough that's for sure. He's an old boy. 42" looks like a good guess, he might go 43" but he's broomed off quite a bit.

BwanahileNot sure, but I hope to find his twin in Zim next May!

DB BillI think the estimates are a little "short". I shot this one a few years back in Zim and it measured 42+" and the one at the zoo looks to be a couple of inches longer.

Safari-HuntWhatever the measurement end up to be I doubt that anyone will say no to take him !

bwanamrmI agree with DB Bill. My sable was 42" and that bull sweeps back more and has good height... I am guessing 44" to 45"...

Jaco HumanAt least 46", it can easily be longer. Not many of them left in the wild.

NickuduHis sweep back is rather abrupt but, with his head held fully upright, those tips are still quite near his back. I'd be surprised if he was under 46".

Balla Balla
This one taken in ZAMBIA at the ranch some years ago now ran at 46.75 ....
So I would think that ZOO sable was approaching 45"

Isn't this quote from "Meditations on Hunting" by the Spanish philosopher Jose Ortega y Gassett?

Michael RobinsonBill,
That is a paraphrase, or a rough translation from the Spanish, but yes, it is Ortega, and it is from Meditations on Hunting.
