Field experinces with the .375 Ruger?

Don't have a .375 Ruger, BUT do have a .395 on the Ruger .375 case, and it is on a left-hand Ruger action. I've not had any feeding problems with my Ruger and that case (did have receiver base problems that definitely did NOT allow the rings to be in line with the bore).
I'm retired AF myself. Another military lefty!

Great to hear it. Yep - it looks like the lefty mafia is starting to form up on that .375 Ruger case. Hehe.

Oh, and I just got a call from the gunsmith a couple of hours ago regarding the rifle. The trigger, barrel, stock and a slew of other ancillary components are now in. Just waiting on the donor rifle to arrive for stripping. After seeing the feedback on here and the other place I posted my initial questions, I gave him the all-clear to start the project. For those who brought your experience to the table regarding this caliber, thanks again for your feedback.

I am getting rid of my .375 ultra mag for a Ruger Alaskan in .375. I really like the fact that out of the factory, it is a much shorter rifle and is easier to handle in the brush.

Thanks Chuck. I received this pic this morning from Athol. I have no other details except the young lady was using the 375 Ruger Legend I made for him. The purpose for the rifle was to loan to clients to use if necessary. The lion was taken with one 350gr Woodleigh soft point.

MyWin M70 375 H&H jammed shut with Rem Factory ammo (Swifts). High pressure can happen with any cartridge. Whoopie fricken ding dong.

I absolutely love my Ruger Alaskan .375 Ruger. Once I replaced the stock with a HS Precision it was perfect. I am going to use it on my Nov Elk hunt here in AZ just because I want to kill another big game animal with it. Should work great!

I used the Ruger 375 in Africa last year with factory 300 grain DGX ammunition. Frontal shot on buffalo at 65 yards put him down very fast probably with in 70 yards and all other animals were one shot kills! Accurate out to 300yards no problem.

I'm on a (mostly African) 375 Ruger page. Seems the 375 Ruger is gaining some popularity with African local hunters. These guys are mostly in SA, Namibia and ZIM

Have shot elephant, Cape buff, water buff, hippo, croc, and multiple brown bear with my Ruger .375. One of my true, "GO TO" rifles. Excellent choice in my opinion.

I have a Browning lever action rebarreled from .300 Win. mag. to .375 Ruger. I've used it on cape buffalo & warthog, and my wife has taken black wildebeest, zebra, & warthog. IMO its a great caliber, as stated, good out to 300 yds. Barrie Duckworth, founder of Mokore Safaris in Zim & Moz carries a bolt Ruger in .375 & he speaks highly of the cartridge. He has confidence in .375 Ruger as an elephant rifle, in the right hands.

The Duckworth/Mokori info is much appreciated. I may take my 375 ruger next time i go to the save. I now know there is a back source for some ammo if the ammo bag gets lost or delayed.

I have used mine (Ruger Guide Gun) on buffalo, lion and bushpigs. Worked like a champ. I think I am a bigger fan of the guide gun than the cartridge, but no fleas on either. Buffalo went 20 yards after being hit and lion just rolled over dead. Both were shot using 300 grain TSX.

I carried a custom Kevin Weaver .375 Ruger to Mozambique and killed two buffalo, sable, nyala, Lichenstein's Hartebeest, two warthog, Red Duiker and a reedbuck with 300 grain TSX's. It works... plain and simple.

I don't like 375 Ruger, i tink it was developed so Ruger would save money, and dont have to
Make Long actions, when they Where making the the Nice mark 2 in 375H&H, 416rigby and 458lott.
These New ones are cheap and has a gay muzzle break on them..

Down with 375 and 416 Ruger, and Long live the classic 375H&H and 416rigby

All these new calibers work great in the US and Canada. But if somewhere along the way your ammo goes missing, as it frequently does. You have a boat anchor. 375 H&H is available everywhere in Africa, should the worst happen.

I have earlier spoken very warm about the 375 ruger.

I bought mine in 2008 , and it has been with me on 8 safaris. I have used it on buffalo, giraffe, duikers, impalas, zebra ...well most of the plains game incl eland.
I have also used it in Norway for the last 6 years, on moose up to 300kg and on deer.

it works very well, it gets the job done.

ammunition is very easy to come by in south africa, it has become a very popular caliber there now.

beeing a reloader I dont follow up on how many factory loads has come to the market, but i would belive that the selection has gotten bigger? When i bought mine there was only the 300 gr flat nose from hornady avvaileble.

I was hoping to see Stradling post on this. He used one in Australia for a cull shoot on buffs. Sounded like things went well with it there. Something like 87 buff killed in five days.

Wonder where Luis is on his by now too.

Mine was in Namibia in 2011, the African model.
Hunted with Johan Veldsman and took mountain zebra, black wildebeest, kudu, gemsbook and three springbook.

Bullet was 270 grs Barnes TRX and the rifle / load performed flawlessy.

I really like the light and handy rifle, espesially when trekking for hours going after zebra and kudu.

Min is pimped a bit with a second cross bolt, a 2" pachmayr and bedding.
As a grow older i find it easier to carry than my M70 in 375 H&H.
In my opinion, though and sturdy working rifle with no frills.
