Leopard....Where to Go?
I'm thinking about heading across the pond next year or the year after. I really want a leopard.

For those who have been there and done that....where's the best place to go? Any recommendations for an Outfit/PH with a proven succuss record on Leopard?

Appreciate the assistance.

Hi William,

There are a lot of good companies and places for leopard and I'm sure you'll get some good input.

We own 5 blocks in Tanzania and have several excellent areas for leopard in the Selous and western TZ. Last year every one of our clients that wanted a leopard shot one within their 21-days.

Please drop me an email if you'd be interested in more details or references of all that hunted leopard last year. Happy Hunting!

All the best,
Mohanjeet

If you want Leopard, please checkout John Sharp Safaris@www.john-sharp-safaris.com. Based on my trip last year he is the best for CATS. Experience, quality camp and you will see plenty of game. We had 4 areas baited, 3 active Leopard on baits, took a monster 180 pounds. You will have many replies to this question, but John has the best track record.

The Save Conservany in Zim seems to produce better-than-average leopards. It's been noted for that here before.

I'll second for the save. jumbo moore, barry duckworth, roger whithall all have good areas there. I took a 200# one with jumbo and we have 13 cats on 7 baits.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Much appreciated.

Thanks Bob! I've been here since last year....just do more lurking than anything.

Hasn't the U.S. State Department issued a Travel Warning for Zimbabwe? With all the unrest and political turmoil, is it safe to hunt in Zim right now???

Ron you are a trusting sole! I would never place a deposit on a Zim operation more than a week in advance, but then again I'm not a trusting sole. Wyn

Andrew Dawson of Chifuti Safaris who operate in zim also appears to have a good rep when it comes to getting leopard.

I am not an expert, but what no one is saying is that there are no guarantees. Leopard hunting is very time consuming and it is possible to hunt for Leopard and not get one! That's why it is called hunting. One's chances, of course, improve considerably the longer you hunt eg. 21 days, and in a good area, and with a PH who "knows" cats. Excuse me for saying this, but the success rate for Leopard can be somewhat 'spotty"!

FOsteology,

I just got back from Namibia and hunted with Erindi hunting safaris and I can definatly say they have huge cats without all the trouble of Zim and other places. This lodge is first class and the PH's, Nick and Corne' Kruger are excellent at what they do. The prices are reasonable and they have alot of cats. I saw three different males and one female and this isn't the bigger of the four. Contact me if you want any info.

Once again I would like to thank everyone for their input, advice, and assistance. I'm now in contact with several outfitters and PH's and hope to narrow my list down to 2-3 so I can make a final determination.

I "second" Nevster. Took mine with Chifuti last July (sat in blind twice, then "boom"). I believe all PH's mentioned are good ones, but none are better than Chifuti (Andrew Dawson/Paul Smith). Regardless of who you chose, I would strongly suggest prebaiting as there are no guarantees with Leopard.
