Zim PHs/Operators, Redlined Individuals, & State Dept
All,

Since this news that won't create a big stir I am sure it won't be reported.

I spoke with a knowledgeable source in the US State Dept and low and behold there is NO such list of PHs or Safari Operators that are considered to be "front men" or "in business with" or "indirectly" working for any of the redlined individuals.

Sorry it took awhile to get the accurate info but I wanted to be sure of the source...a novelty of course.

Thanks for running that down.

I think you had better go back to your source and have him double check. There is a list of 6 operators and 8 individuals that has been shown to some lobbyists and high ranking individuals in hunting organizations and publications. This list was given to these people by a couple of Congressmen and a State Department Official. This is not an official list and the groups have decided not to act on the information until it is made official. They were told that future cooperation by the State Department would be at risk if they did business with these companies and individuals.

Gator1,

I believe you have actually made my point...please tell me what congressional representative, what state department official, and what operators...

GAtor1,Mikes post is intended to allow a follow up of the information from the original source. It is not a personal attack. The idea is to get it from the horses mouth so to speak. All too often we operate on rumour without verification.

Mike and Mike

I understand that Mike D's question was not personnal. I would ask the same question if the situation was reversed. The memo was read to me by a Congressional staffer for an opinion. I recognized a couple of the names but not all as it has been 13 years since I was in Zim and I have not followed the hunting scene there since I left.

It would serve no puppose to name two of the names and not the rest. If the State Department is sitting on the names why should I publicize them, although I think that was the State Departments intent in showing the list to Pubs. and International Hunting Clubs.

Suffice to say they think they have a concious tie in with a half dozen Outfitters and the names on the proscribed list. They believe these Outfitters are knowingly hunting on siezed land taken over by the members of the Zim Gov't, which they probably are.

It would seem prudent to get a signed letter from any outfitter that you would hunt with in Zim saying this is not so in there case to cover your behind. I doubt if the opinion of a paid agent would be of much value.

Guess I gotta sell my .300 Win. Mag, eh?
What about the .458 Lott?
When was the .22-250 invented? I'm just trying to figure out what I can keep!
.270 Win., 35. Whelen, .30-06 and .375 H&H. [Big Grin]

I follow the rule, "Never hunt with a cartridge shorter than your pinky." That is why the WSM cartridges are off my list.

(Prarie dog hunting is an exception because it is shooting, not hunting, so the 222 and 223 are ok.)

Rich Elliott.

Try a .300 H&H or a 30 Newton. How about a
.404,.416 Rigby but not Remington [Wink] or a 500 Jeffery? A 250-3000 would work out fine also, you get the point. Nothing worthwhile has been invented since I was born, or even since Ray was. [Big Grin] This morning, after splitting 2 cords of Pine yesterday, I think that all I can use is a .45 caliber muzzleloader.
