Novel way to deal with poachers........
I've absolutely no idea who it was, Wink but I heard of a guy recently flew someone up to a neighbouring African country in a light aircraft to look at an area he'd been offered. While they were flying the game count, they spotted a herd of Buff and shortly afterwards saw a small group of poachers with spears and dogs etc........ and had the BRILLIANT idea of circling back to the Buff and driving them straight at the poachers. jumping

Wish to hell I'd been there! clap

Hunting in the Save Conservancy in southeastern Zimbabwe last May, we lost several leopard baits to a poacher(s?). The local game scouts established a stakeout on the offending tree, and actually caught the guy.

By the time they got him to the magistrate, there was little left to prosecute, as they had beat thim within an inch of his life. They said that since the white farm takeover, magistrates were powerless to invoke more than a slap on the hand for poaching. At least this way they offender got enough punishment to make him think twice about resuming his career, or at least about getting CAUGHT!

Just the bad guys' good luck that the light plane didn't have a nose or belly camera to take some pics! Let me see, now. One buff scared me at 35 yards -and I had a 375 H&H and a very good PH to back me up. I would have loved to see pics of a herd of nyati coming at those poachers!

Our PH and staff apprehended a poacher in Zim last fall. The perpetrator was actually held overnight in the padlocked curio shop!

Anyway, the next day he was taken to town for the formalities and a subsequent fine was imposed of about $1 USD as I recall.

..... on one of my safaris the poacher made it to the boundary fence and the PH let loose with his .357 at him in the distance .....

Beating someone nearly to death over Leopard bait seems a bit harsh. What do you think he was doing with the baits? I guess he would have been in some serious trouble had he poached the Leopard! Wink
