Question? Did Beretta buy Holland and Holland?
I was told buy a friend that Beretta has purchased Holland and Holland late last week. Supposedly negotiations have been in works for awhile.
They also bought Chapuis last year.

UGG! I agree Harry, it seems everything I have grown up with has gone to POT! 2020
As far as I'm concerned, this trend all but destroys the old names that have been known for quality in my opinion!
I don't have a double big bore H&H but have always wanted one, and if I get one it will be an old one that has not been bastardized with new owners.

The new owner should be credited to safe a company that was primarily focused on selling ties and overpriced leather bags. It always makes me wonder how far away are some comments here from the reality.

Umm, Beretta just happens to be the oldest gunmaker in the world and still in family hands. It’s not like that Rigby F up moving to California for a bit...

I did visit the London H&H store almost 20 years ago, and it was geared towards selling ties and such. I’m not even sure I could’ve afforded one back then. The was an air of snottiness. I live within only a couple of miles from both the Beretta Gallery and H&H locations here. I’ve been to Beretta many times, but have yet to go to the H&H store (it might even be by appointment only). I’ve bought a few guns from Beretta Gallery at very fair prices, along with clothes and accessories,

I see it as a symbiotic relationship.

I like Beretta a lot, as a company.

Beretta USA has kind of finally sorted itself out. For a long time they wouldn't import things like Tikka and Sakos in 9.3x62.

Finally they have that worked out.

H&H under the Beretta family will give them the guidance of having a 600 year old gun company control the brand not someone who wants to put a elastication band around the nuts of the thing like has been done for most of my adult life.

I believe beretta is one of, if not the longest continuously running industrial enterprise.

It means nothing, but I had a hell of a lot letter time hanging out with the guys at beretta And messing with their high-end shotguns than trying to get the attention of a guy at the H&H counter at Reno.

I would not expect quality (or prices, unfortunately) to decline.

That is, as long as the Beretta family have not overextended themselves by buying so many gun companies so quickly in recent years.

You need to visit the H&H website, if you haven't done so in a while. They have an impressive inventory, and their photography is excellent.

The favorite listed price (especially for the rifles) is "P.O.A." - price on asking. (Or put another way, if you have to ask, you can't afford it!)

In looking over their inventory, one can lose all perspective.

Again, especially with the rifles.

I found myself thinking, as I clicked on page after page of them, "Hmmm . . . this one's not bad - only $50,000." Big Grin

The one pictured above is being offered at a mere quarter of a million dollars.

If you liked H%H under Chanel ownership you'll like it better under Beretta. The acquisition by Beretta will be a good thing I think.

.

Prada bought out Church's shoes a decade plus back. Why not Beretta and H&H.

Not many high end British owned brands left. H&H made / makes fantastic guns but the clientele of yester-year is no longer there in the numbers it once was to keep such a name going. The most exciting thing other than silk ties and leather bags was the shooting ground that they opened.

Perhaps under Beretta they will launch 'an everyday gun for everybody in semi auto'! Hows that for an idea?

Isn’t Westley Richards pretty much owned by the royal family of Qatar?

It will be interesting to see the effect of Beretta ownnership on the US distribution and support of Chapuis shotguns and double rifles, and Manurhin revolvers, also manufactured by Chapuis.

Yes sir, and Vendome owns Purdey. I'm not sure any of these gunmakers are profitable? Others may shed light on that statement.

I was told by a disgruntled Beretta associate that Beretta shotguns are manufactured in Turkey, someone better informed than I am care to confirm.

Maybe in the white and finished in Italy as the Turks once had the habit of engraving MIG 15s instead of traditional game birds on the action/plates Big Grin

That does not amount to much as there is engraving then there is engraving, these days the process is automated and can belt out plates in great detail.

I’ve seen 3901s with Turkish barrels. Would imagine the lower end shotguns are partially built there. I don’t think any silver pigeon series is.

You think Beretta buying H&H sad. Read the other day the Lamborghini, now owned by Volkswagon. At least in the same industries, and new owners know what the field about.

H&H has been in decline for many years under poor management. Hopefully Beretta can do better.

I had the pleasure of beating on an English driven pheasant shoot on which a significant member of the Channel Empire was shooting. She was a fantastic shot and had a wonderful sense of humour and she went well out of her way to come and speak to the beaters to offer her thanks at the end of the day. A true charming Diana well worthy of her place in the field.
