My back yard boma ...

Bill/OregonMy back yard boma ...
Well, the boma is close to completion now, and a pleasant spot to sip a cup of coffee in the morning. Diameter is 20 feet, surface crushed granite with fire pit in the center. Walls are 6X15-foot reed screening panels from Lowe's wired to a framework of hazel whips wired to pressure treated poles set in pre-mix. I realize this is a jarring juxtaposition of new and ancient technology, but the visual rhythms of reed, post and twig in a circle make for a paleo feel that I find very comforting. Now to roast some beast and quaff a few horns of barley wine around the fire!
It's not quite Namibia, but with enough beers under the belt and some skulls scattered around, it will have to do.

Good job. Just like "home."

Bill,
Very nice!! Too bad we live so far away, we still have a bottle of Cane that would go great around the fire.
Enjoy.

Safari-HuntBill,
This is proof of the africa addiction

Bill, you have it bad on a scale of 10 I suppose 8/10 now if we could only arrange to send some proper wood over.

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

Bill/OregonThanks all. Ann, Kathi, you're welcome to drop by for a "wee drop" of snake preventative anytime! Frederik: We don't have mopane here, but manzanita and mountain mahogany are good and hard, full of character and burn hot.

Safari-HuntBill,
Good to hear you have some good wood there. Next time you are here you should record some nightsounds and then have a nice sound system setup and play that back in your boma

then youre all set and I will give you an addiction rate of 10/10

Use Enough GunI agree with Safari-hunt. Get those sounds recorded and start playing them. I am sure that your neighbors will also respond to them as well!!

bwanajimFunny, we long for African wood but while touring the ghost town Kolmanskop (near Luderitz Bay, Namibia) I noticed quite a lot of Oregon pine had been used in the construction.

Oday450Are there any CDs availabl with sounds of the bushveld? They would be very good as background for slide shows of hunts as well as background music for the braai.
