Does anybody know of some ammo belts for the .470 that hold at least ten rounds with the tips of the bullets NOT covered. I have only found one like that and it only holds six rounds. What do ya'll use?

I prefer using an ammo belt so that I can easily take it on or off as needed throughout the day. I usually keep two softs and 8 solids in the belt. I had mine made by Murray Custom Leather. One like mine is shown below:

If you call Murray, I suspect he could make you one without the tips covered. Every belt he makes is based on your size and preferences.
The bullets are so big and have such a straight neck, however, that I would imagine the reason most ammo holders for calibers of this size are closed-end is to prevent them from ever slipping out

I use a Westley Richards culling belt. It holds 20 rounds, the buulet tips are not covered which has the side benefit of not collecting water in the bottom. It is made of canvas and leather. It is so comfortable that last year there were several times that I forgot to take it off when I got back to the cruiser. With nylon belts, I would look forward to taking off.

I agree that you sure don't want to have to pry out a reload!

But an alternative is to stick with the closed-end carriers, but just be sure to stretch and work them very hard before going afield.

During the "work-in" period, you can use the same rounds you will hunt with, or slightly larger diameter rounds, which will stretch the leather a bit further, but still allow it to shrink back. That way, the loops will fit loosely enough on your hunting cartridges that that you can easily lift them out when needed.

That's what I have done and it works like a charm.

BTW, Murray's closed-end carriers are slotted at the bottoms to facilitate drying if they should get wet. Just be sure to keep the leather oiled.

What you have to understand about Murray Leather products is tho Dick himself has yet to go on safari he has so many clients that have his stuff it is field proven, built like a tank and will last as long as you do. If you don't want something the way he built it...call and talk to him and tell him what you want. He is the man doing the work so it will get done.

I use a Murray belt but he made a twelve round belt for me.

I make a habit of twisting the cartridges every so often so they don't get hung up. It has worked fine when fast a reload has been required

Just get Murray to make your belt with his industrial elastic loops, I have a couple of them, and they won't hold water, and are easier to get the cartridges out quickly. Mine are 10 yrs old still like new, and you can get one of his 10 round slip-ons, for the other side of the belt . Problem solved

The best one I've seen, and I've looked at a few at the SCI in Reno is the belt and rig Mark Sullivan is selling. Its made for him by Galco and it is what you want. I used Galco's double rifle six pack for my .470, which positions rounds in pairs and has a cover flap that I prefer to hide the shiny brass. I also carried next to it my initial load of one solid and one soft in their Keith's Double Duty Cartridge Case, and the six pack was filled with solids.

I just went to a leather guym, here in houston, and explained exactly what I wanted, and he made them right up for me i had several 5 round carriers made for 375, 416, and 458 with the ends exposed and they have been perfect, i think i paid 10$ a piece.
