I have the opportunity to hunt a CITES Elephant (25-45lbs) along the Limpopo River (wandering Tuli block elephant) for $10,000 including day fees. I know the PH and the price/hunt is legitimate.

I promised myself I wouldn't return until next summer, am I being a complete dolt for not taking this opportunity? I can afford the price and the time easily.

I currently live in Korea, can I leave the Ivory and skin in RSA for an indefinate amount of time until I return to the USA?

GET-ER-DONE! If this is all legit you will regret not taking this opportunity for a long time if you don't go. If you can afford it and the vacation time is there I would jump on a deal like that.

Let me understand this...this is probably the hunt that we all cried about recently...you can afford the time and the money...you like the PH...and your questioning what? How come you're not on the airplane?

I don't know the answer to leaving ivory in country indefinitely but the rest of your question is a slam dunk.

If time and money are not an issue, the PH is not the issue, and the offer is on the up and up...sorry, was there a question here?

With Africa being Africa, you never know what next year will hold. If it were me, I'd be packing for the trip.

I think I would be worried about leaving the trophy in Africa for a while until you were back in the USA, especially if you didnt know when you would be back in the USA

Isn't this like asking the choir if you should sing?

There must be an address in the US where you could ship the trophy. Even if you had to pop home for a few days to "receive" it.

Perhaps a customs clearing house could make arrangements with you, your taxidermist or someone like that. Your situation can't be the first time this has come up.

Take it if you start asking questions wether or not to do it then you will be kicking yourself for not doing it.

As far as I know you will be able to leave the trophy at a taxidemist for anytime period you like I just think that they would later charge a bit of a holding fee.
But why not leave it with your PH your hunting with ?

Then if this is the 14 day hunt your were talking about a week or two back. I'll be there to film it for you at $125 per day. Including editing talk to the PH maybe they could use the footage for promotion and could share some of the costs.

If you want I could even pick you up at the airport and drive you trough ? Since I stay in Pretoria 40 minutes from the airport.

I'll call the PH tonight and arrange something with the office. Looks like I'll be back in Nov/Dec after Elephant.

At $10K, this is $5K less than my recollection of the previous hunt that sounded similar. I thought the hunt at $15K was a bargain for an exportable bull, at $10K -- with time and money -- it is a no brainer.

Believe me you will regret it if you do not go.. Any elephant hunted is a life long memory and an experience if one can do is a must...
If you send it home (USA) all you need is a power of Attorney form filled out for Fauna and Flora and they will recover it from USFW...They can ship it to where ever you would like...
