A little good news, I would certainly want my businesses to continue after I was gone.

I had the privilege of staying at the Ultimate Lodge in June 2010. Meeting and sharing sun downers with Russell and others was a real treat. Especially hearing the stories about local legends and celebs that had passed through the lodge. Russell was certainly a contributor to the legends of Africa.

I was hoping to hear that Sandy De Klerk would help keep the Ultimate Lodge open. My brother and I stayed there in January, just a couple of days after Russell had left for his surgery in South Africa. Russell had asked Sandy to look after things while he was away, and the lodge could not be in more capable hands. She is delightful , efficient, and just as Russell always did, she will “make a plan” for you no matter what you might need. Sandy also runs a butcher shop in Vic Falls, so your meals at the lodge will always have the best cuts. As far as I know, the same wonderful people are still helping staff things, so you will be well cared for. You know, the Ultimate Lodge is the only place in Vic Falls that really caters to hunters and fishermen, so I hope it continues to operate for a long, long time as a tribute to a great man, Russell Caldecott. I know that I will return there many times.

This is really great news. I've met Sandy, and she is just as kaizer described. Sandy is a good friend of Russell's for many years. I feel certain that this is just what Russell would have wanted. He loved his guests and they became his friends. When you stay there, you are staying at Russell's home. I'd like to see that atmosphere continue, and I'm sure it will. The staff there is very friendly and capable. Thanks, peashooter, for keeping us all up-to-date on the status of the lodge.
