BigBullet300 H&H Single Shot
I belive that a 300 H&H single shot would be a great all-around rifle for general plains game use. Searching old threads, I found a mention that Ruger did produce a limited number in this caliber. I have yet to see one or locate one. Are there other options for obtaining a 300 H&H single shot, short of buying the Ruger action and building one? Are there other manufacturers of a sigle shot in this caliber? Thanks

bwanamrmDakota will build you one on their classic Model 10 action. As fancy as you want with as many options as you can afford or the base model. Check
www.Gunsamerica.com and look under Dakota. Someone may have one for sale.

tcencore260You can get one on a T/C Encore. T/C's custom shop will make a barrel in 300 H&H that will fit a factory forend, or you can go whole hog and have a true custom rig made up by Bullberry or Virgin Valley. Mine's not a 300 H&H, but a nice custom Encore is a pretty gun!

fredj338I alwyas thought a #1H in .300h&h would be "classic" african. You could buy a #1 in .30-06 & have it rechambered to .300H&H for a reasonable cost. You could even add bbl. band front & bbl. band swivel. Very cool.

LE270I've not actually seen one, but my guess is that Holland & Holland has made some, and certainly would make you one were you to order one and be willing to pay their price. I remember seeing a single-shot .375 H&H in one of the gun shops in London some years ago. Very expensive.

BigBulletKevin,
Yes, that Dakota Model 10 is a beautiful sight.

But being of modest means, I was hoping not to miss any mortgage payments in search for this rifle.

Tim CarneyMy 300 H&H flanged magnum was made up about 20 years ago using a Webley 1902 patent falling block action. The gunsmith went the whole hog and made it with a 375 flanged magnum (shilen) barrel, the barrels being hand detachable and locked in with a little screw into the threads through the right side of the action.
The Webley action with its extractor dictated use of a rimmed case and the H&H pair seemed the way to go with the big Webley action. If I had it to do over, I might do a 375 flanged and maybe a 7mm rimmed case...
The 300 barrel has no iron sights, just a rail for warne QD rings and a recoil stop for the front ring. Use a Leupold variable scope and it shoots and handles fine, but, in truth, I prefer the 375 barrel with its iron sights.

AtkinsonA 1-S in 300 H&H would be outstanding....Henry forend and irons, mighty fine then top it off with a 2x7 varible...The did make that gun at one time as I recall....Great plainsgame rifle..
