GunsCoreWhere is My African Hunter Magazine?
Is there anyone out there who knows what is going on with African Hunter magazine? It is supose to have six issues a year, but I have only gotten three. I know they must be having a tough time in Zim so I am not demanding a refund. I just miss reading it.

Code4I paid a 12 mth subscription and not received any. Vague replies received from queries.
Not worth the risk of subscribing again.

crlI paid for 18 issues at the 2006 SCI show in Reno and have received a total 8 issues in three friggin years! I have received a total of 2 issues #1 and #3 in 2008.
I send emails and get nothing. I love the content when I get a chance to read it. But I will NEVER subscribe again.

buckeyeshooterI had lots of difficulty when I subscribed, but to be honest they were still printing out of the USA then. The customer service with them let lots to be desired in my opinion. I have not subscribed again and seeing this thread would not further me to do so. The content and photos were first rate however.

Jim CarlsonI've subscribed since the Inaugural Issue and have not missed an issue until Number 6 of 2007 didn't arrive. Now, this year I have only received #1, #2 and #3.
I just noticed that their wonderful website is now just a single page with their contact information. Disappointing!
Good hunting,
Jim

GunsCoreThe guy who maintained their website for them suddenly left when he started a competing magazine. It caught them by surprise and with all the troubles in Zim they obviously haven't been able to get it back up. The last I heard the printing was moved to RSA.

Bryan ChickThats pretty much what I have heard. You know, with the infrastructure in such a mess comm's are pretty fluid. If the phones are not working then e-mail will not go through; if the power grid is off line then the cell phone towers will not work, nor, for that matter will most landline phones. No reason to excoriate the magazine: they do not produce their electricity; sure, they could use generators, if they can get diesel, which was a bit difficult to get when I was there in June.
30 December 2008, 23:30
Use Enough GunCome to think of it, I haven't received my last issue. . . .I've got a three year subscription with them. I guess we should all be knocking on the door of their booths at DSC and SCI, unless the magazine's editor, Don Heath, who posts here can give us an update.

editor-antGood Day Gentlemen
Sorry for the delay in posting, the offices have been closed during the festive season. Don and I are in today, but heading for Dallas on Tuesday.
We have in fact produced six magazines this year, though the issue numbers are out of kilter. This was primarily due to problems we had in 2007, when our production was thrown off by the escalating collapse here in Zim.
At this stage, the issue numbers are still out - with Issue No.4 completing the six for this year (No.4 started arriving in the USA in December) and while we attempted to get it back in line through 2008, the situation highlighted by Bryan with reference to Zimbabwe has hindered this. The latest thorn in our side, was the Cholera outbreak here in the last few months, which saw most staff off battling bouts of the disease. This hot on the heals of the disruption of the presidential election re-run, thwarted our efforts to get the extra two issues out. We could have opted for a couple of “quick fix” magazines, but did not want to undermine our good reputation by cheating our readers with sub-standard magazines.
I hate making excuses, and seldom expect them from our team here. My policy is to overcome what Africa might throw at us, and in most cases we succeed. But, the buck stops with me, and I offer my apologies to those who have been affected.
I suspect a glitch somewhere as far as communication and enquiries go. One of my biggest administration centres is the management of subscribers, of which we maintain over 2000 worldwide, this aside from Africa and our regional shop distributions. Our subscribers are very important to us. If we receive a subscription enquiry at OUR address - fishunt@zol.co.zw - it receives a prompt, thorough and detailed reply. I can, with complete confidence, stand by this statement. Jacqui has managed this system for close on 20 years, and we work closely on it.
I would be most grateful if those of you who have not received magazines, or as stated, paid for 18 and only received some, or 6 and none (or any other issue) either PM me or mail our office on the above address (or both). I would also like to see the “vague” responses if you still have them on your computers as I would like to follow this up. If I pay for a service and do not get it, I am all over the supplier. I expect our customers to treat us the same way and stand ready to rectify the situation, no matter what it takes. But if we do not have the feedback, we have no way of fixing the problems.
Anyway, I will not bore you all with the long winded stories. I often find that readers confuse their communications with us, with other magazines, or even timings of when they subscribed, as well as change of addresses etc. I am in Dallas, Houston and Reno, and would be more than happy to discuss and follow up on any dissatisfaction, stopping at nothing to ensure you are satisfied with our service!
We live in hard times here, but are still, I believe, positioned in one of the greatest hunting environments in Africa, allowing us to maintain the quality publication we do. We put up with the hardships, as to move elsewhere, would undermine our position as the best African hunting magazine in the world. Our glass is half full always, and we look forward to a productive 2009.
As for the web site... Yes, the webmaster pulled the plug with no warning or reason, and took off with more than just our material to launch his own opposition magazine... such as it is. We honour these subscriptions sold on his site anyway, but are reluctant to “climb” into bed with other such people. Plans are afoot to employ staff and maintain our own website soon. But we are magazine publishers first and that remains our focus.
I hope this answers some of your queries and welcome the opportunity to fully respond to each of your enquiries when you contact us.
Wishing you all the best for the new year, and looking forward to seeing you State-side.

crlIt is nice to see a response from Mr. Williams. I am sure that trying to produce a product and get it shipped worldwide from Zim is a big pain. With that said it does not explain how some folks get all their isssues and other don't. Me for one. Mr Williams sent me an email thinking that they must be lost in the mail. I subscribed for 18 issues in Jan 2006 at SCI in Reno. I received 2 issues dated 2006, 4 issues dated 2007 and 2 issues dated 2008. That is damn poor mail service we must have here in MN.

jdollarmy issues come so far apart and so sporadically that i am not sure if i have received 3 or 4 in 2008 but i am reasonably sure it was only 3. it just isn't worth it to me anymore to keep paying for something that i rarely get( did enough of that with the last wife's alimony)

jbderunzReceived mine Wednesday.
I can tell You that Bigbore Core question's isn't innocent.
I forwarded his article to a couple of friends and we had a good laugh.
From the bottom of our hearts we are ready to offer Mike Core to hunt another lioness in CAR or Cameroon, all in inclusive on us.
Personnally, I doubt that Dr Don Heath still be in charge of this magazine.

Why Don Heath will not more be in charge of African Hunter magazine ?

GunsCorejbderunz,
I will be happy to take you up on that free lioness hunt as long as I am the only one with a firearm. I was just kidding with that "dropping a Frenchman" comment. I figured you guys could handle it since you are all so famous for your sense of humor. Viva La France!

The lioness' offer wasn't intended to corner you but because in CAR or Cameroon, shooting a female is a crime sentenced at least by an outrageous penalty. We don't want to kill any friend, especially American.
The matter is closed, Amen.
God bless America.

Dear Friends and subscribers to Hatari Times.
Its only a few days before the new SCI-Convention in Reno. I will be there again, sharing booth # 129 with my old friends from Buffalo Safaris Australia.
I apologuize for not having published a fresh edition of Hatari Times for some time. Unfortunately, I had a few health problems last year - nothing really serious, but unfortunately enough to cancle 2 trips to Africa (injured myself twice while splitting firewood, and on top of that caught a nasty infection while in hospital).
Since I want to stick to my policy of only publishing real authentic 1st hand experiences instead of using archive material, this meant NO Hatari Times for quite a while. Good new is that I am gearing up for another elephant hunt in spring, building a ver yinteresting big .600 Nitro rifle for a feature article.
Last year saw a few changes of my gun business. For years I had been planing on a new rifle production based on Chas. Newtons genious Leverbolt Rifle design, which never went into production. I spent the better part of 2008 physically building a few prototype rifles, which turned out much more difficult and time consuming than I had thought. But finally the product, the 1st Newton Arms Leverbolt Rifles from regular production, turned out so well that it was surely worth all the time end efford. In actual fact, I revived the Newton Arms and Leverbolt Rifle brand names. I will bring a .30-06 Mod. Stalker (standard length small ring action) and an almost finished (in the white) Dangerous Game Rifle in .375 H&H (large magnum action) to the SCI-Convention. Come and have a look!
Since the Newton Arms Leverbolt Rifle is the natural evolution of the Mauser 98, I will also build them in 3 different action sizes from Kurz (small) and medium legth small ring and large ring to a large magnum action. I am quite excited about this venture.
I am already gearing-up for a limited production run with 1st deliveries in late summer/early fall 2009.
See you in Reno
Best Regards
Harald Wolf

My question as well. I have yet to get a reasonable answer from anyone.
They were selling magazine subscriptions like hot cakes at DSC. I had to laugh at these folks tossing their money away. I stopped in and told them how much I liked their poor delivery record and expected to get another 10 issues even though my 18 issue subscription was to end this year.
