dogcatWarthog Tusk Display
I have posted on the taxidermy forum but would ask this illustrious group - do you have any pictures of a warthog tusk display? My wife nixed the skull mounts.
Thanks

We cut about 3" off the snout of the skull and put it on a plaque facing out in a natural position. All the tusks are attached as they should be but you don't have the whole skull effect. If you just put the tusks on a plaque you will loose entirely what the warthog looks like.

BlankDogCat: My wife feels the same way in general about skulls, or European mounts in the house. Fine in any of my trophy rooms in the basement, but none upstairs to bother guests; nice mounts only. Maybe since all MY "guests" are hunters, I shouldn't be too worried about bothering them, and don't really care about bothering HERS.

I just went for the shadow box look for two sets of them, with them held in place with nice copper wire under the glass, and have a full skull sitting on top of my gun safe.

LJSMy taxidermist has a small wooden plaque cut in the shape of Africa. He epoxies the two sets of tusks to the plaque. Looks very nice and is about 18" by 12". Sorry I don't have a digital camera. It was done by Conroe Taxidermy so they may show it on their web site.

Mine is the opposite!!

No shoulder mounts upstairs (except my 46" stone which is exempt!), but she likes the skulls and has a bunch of them in a curio cabinet near our front entrance (including a warthog skull).

Cheers,
Canuck

This is the only photo that I have. I lost a lot of photos in a recent computer crash.

This is simple, but looks good.

BlacktailerHere is a display that my wife had done by a local framing shop. We included some porcupine quills that the trackers picked up during the hunt. These are not exactly trophy sized tusks as we found this old sow wounded while hunting and put her out of her misery but her tusks made a nice addition to the trophy room.

TSJI really like that blacktailer.
It looks as though the tusks are under glass? Is the frame deeper then it looks and the glass sits in the front of the frame?

dogcatBlacktailer,
Thanks, you have given me several great ideas.
