Apparently they were killed on private properties as they were killing their animals.

Isn’t true in Namibia this is legal??

I believe it is legal. I got a permit in 22 but did not see a cheetah.

There is something repugnant to me as an hunter about shooting a juvenile game animal.

I’m not going to judge others, but I would not do it except under the most extraordinary circumstances I can imagine, and I would never brag about it. It may be legitimate predator control, but IMO it is unfortunate and not to be celebrated.

As for this kind of publicity on the subject, if I react to it this way, can you imagine how non-hunters will react?

Im not talking about anti-hunters, but just neutral people who simply don’t hunt.

Predator control or not, this kind of “cub shooting” publicity is how anti-hunters are made.

Yup. If the story is true, I get why he shot them. Piublicizing this was stupid.

Agreed! do it or don't just keep it to yourself. The "F@#$ you if you don't like it" attitude does us no good.

If they killed several animals on a private property, they can be shot as problem causing animals, but the landowner should report them to authorities within 48 hours.
It is said that these cheetahs were still with their mother but they are already big for cubs. Anyway, even if I shot some cheetahs in the past, this is the kind of photos I will never put on social media Confused

I hunted a conservancy in Namibia around 15 years ago. A couple years before my hunt they had 2400 springbok. A group of cheetah moved in and had reduced the springbok population to less than 400. Most of the springbok hadn't been eaten, just killed for sport. Before an import ban the landowner had let the cheetahs live since he had a trophy fee of around $2,500 on them. Afterwards he killed them at every opportunity. The last 13 he shot he just left them as they lay. As the old saying goes. "If it pays it stays".

I’ve never felt the need to pose with “problem” groundhogs, snakes, bugs, etc that I have needed to kill.

The mentality of these idiots is astounding.

I have seen similar things.

I know a landowner and PH in Namibia, have hunted with him several times. His philosophy on cheetahs is quite simple.

" Mike, old boy, if we see a cheetah, and we do not shoot him, we will have a long talk, old boy. They kill more wildlife on my farm, than ten of you can. You had best speak up now if thats going to be a problem."

My guess is that juvenile cheetahs kill quite often, as they are still learning how to hunt.

I agree about the fact, if you do it, shut up about it
I also would not shoot any young ones with mother ( predators ) but also I won’t look down upon anyone either if it’s legal
It’s quite common all over EUROPE to shoot baby foxes etc. in the Spring or in some of our western states to shoot coyote pups or wolf pups
It is an ugly world and the fine line between legal and illegal and ethical and unethical

Never been lost, just confused here and there for month or two

If I do t want to kill something, that talk is not going to be very long.

The idea to eradicate all natural predators is not hunting conservation.

That is very true though some studies have to be advanced by our scholarly scientists on measures that need to be applied to maintain a healthy population of this group of predators.

Farmers/ranchers consider Cheetah to be a scourge to wildlife but obviously have not had dealings with the ferocious hunting abilities of the now protected African Wild Dog.

I hunted a piece of private property in Namibia 20 years ago, adjacent to Eden. The landowner told me to shoot any cheetah on sight. My first protest was that the trophy fee was hefty and it was not importable, and he said he'd waive the trophy fee.
I kept quiet but was happy I never saw one.

I can think of multiple avenues to describe himself to the press if he so chose. This is an approach that would have never crossed my mind. Truly the dumbest thing I can imagine.
