taking ammo into South Africa
I hope someone has an answer for me. I leave tomorrow morning for Zim, but have to overnight in Jo'burg. I have ammo for my PH's rifle and some shotgun shells. Will I be able to get them through an overnight in SA and back on the plane for Zim, or will they take them. Please let me know I will be leaving work in 4 hrs.

Thanks

I suspect they'll take them from you. You're only allowed to bring ammo into S. Africa for guns you are legally importing.

Thanks Guys

I guess I will leave the other ammo at home and avoid problems.

About 10 years ago I took some .44 mag. pistol ammo for my PH in Zimbabwe.

I overnighted in South Africa. I listed it on the SAP form and the officer asked me if I had the pistol which I didn't and he simply crossed it off the form and let me keep the ammo. Same thing happened when I entered Zimbabwe.

I wouldn't count on that kind of "luck" now days.

I dunno...a contribution to the "retirement fund" occasionally makes a lot of difference...
