Two Zambian poachers are currently battling for their lives at Kasungu District Hospital after being shot in Kasungu National Park by parks and wildlife officers. Kasungu Police spokesman Andrew Gada confirmed the development, saying the two were shot on Tuesday night. The two are Ackson Mwale, 24, who was shot on the hip and Lulaka Zimba, 35, who took a bullet in the stomach. Both hail from Mwasemphangwe in Lundazi, Zambia. Gada said on the night, wildlife officers patrolling the national park heard a gun shot in the park. “When they investigated they came along the two Zambians who had just shot a grysbok. The officers confronted the Zambians who then opened fire. The wildlife officers had no choice but to return fire,†Gada said. After recovery, the two would be charged with four offences of entering into a protected area, possessing of firearms in a protected area, hunting in a protected area and killing a protected animal.
