John Hume Rhino project coming to an end
My apologies if this has already been posted somewhere on AR, but I thought it was important to spread around. Regardless of your feelings about farming wildlife….this should piss off everyone.

I was at his ranch about 20 years ago for several days. It was most impressive.

I forget when and where it was but some of the foaming at the mouth types attacked Mr. Hume in a public forum objecting to what he was doing.

The problem that I see with this is that it is difficult to get donors excited to make contributions for projects that continually need funding.

This is a sad ending to a great conservation project. It's ending says much about how political agendas conflict with an effort to ensure the the survival of any species.

Andrew- I suspect the greenies will run from continuing this project. They are very adept at posturing on social media but terrible when it comes to sustainable conservation.

The horrible thing about the attack on this, is rhino horn can be harvested wo killing the rhino.

This is a loss for White Rhino conservation.

The anti hunting group will use this to ask for donations to save the white Rhino and will not put any money toward protection of the white Rhino.

The anti hunting groups will let wildlife die without any effort put forth on their part to help save any wildlife.

Another example of legislating an otherwise (projected) successful, capitalistic idea into failure. I'm trying to find it, but I think Ivan Carter did an episode in Carters War that projected the financial sustainability of the project should there be legalized trade in harvested rhino horn, including some assumptions that flooding the global market could drive down black market prices and de-incentivize poaching syndicates.
