ivory weight guess??
my PH and I found this bull dead in the Moremi game reserve while doing the photo thing. he had a big hole punched in his chest, apparently from a fight with another bull and had died in the position shown( like a brain shot). had apparently been dead for a week or 2. we pulled a tusk out for the picture, then put it back in the skull. notified the Park game rangers later that day so they could retrieve the ivory. i have always been a bit curious about approx weight. didn't bother to ask my Ph for his estimate at the time.

That is a very thick, but short, tusk.

Assuming that is has a small nerve cavity(it looks like an old elephant), I would guess 37 pounds.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Concur with Jason and chuckling at Ann. Ja, I reckon about 40, pretty thick, but am not a great judge of ivory...

Two-ish feet sticking out x 16-17 inch circumference would put the ele in the mid 30s.

I agree with Davis, right at #40.

It would take 5 jimba elephants to make the same wt so I would say that tusk is right at 5 jimba units
