I've never taken one: seems I read somewhere that it's illegal to bring a .22 into some African countries due to poaching fears.

I have a friend that took his Leopard a few years back with a .22 Rimfire.....and I used a (almost as small) .25-20 on Duikers.

About the leopard....he used a .22 rimfire magnum and parked a 40 grain bellet in the leopard's ear.....The leopard didn't care much for it and eventually had to be "put down" with a .300 Mag.....the trackers were extremely nervous as the entire scene was played out in broad daylight....it's one helluva story and NO....Capstick wasn't there!

most of the PH's i've been with had one in camp. We've amused ourselves with a 22 & potting guineas for the table and plinking cane rats

Hey....Ray, you should see the smile on his face as he tells the story.....it's one of them "You ain't gonna believe this" stories.

We all know that there's a fine line between bravery and stupidity.....he was there with the rimfire rifle at the same time as Mr.Spots and I doubt seriously if he even gave it a thought.....I won't even try to tell the story except to say the trackers upon seeing what he had done made record time back to camp and it wasn't to get help.....it was to hide!!!

Oh...yea...the guy is from Minnesota and that says a lot right there!!!

Looks like one of those: WHEN YOU ARE FACED WITH DANGER THE 22 IN YOUR HAND IS BETTER THAN THE 500 NITRO IN THE SAFE.

More like one of those.... "Trying to land a Marlin on a 5 foot brook rod!!!"

Major respect though and he must need a wheelbarrow to get about....
