South Africa: Illegal Hunter Mauled to Death By Lions in Limpopo

Lions have killed a man hunting illegally on a game farm near Namakgale, Limpopo police said on Friday.

Matome Mahlale, 24, was part of a group of five young men who went hunting on the farm around 18:00 on Wednesday, Colonel Ronel Otto said.

Two lions charged at the group. Three of the men climbed a tree, a fourth man ran away, but Mahlale and two of their dogs were mauled to death.

The three in the tree managed to get away after the lions had left. The men were unarmed as they used their dogs to hunt.

Police were still looking for the four. They would face charges of trespassing and illegal hunting.

The African equivalent of bringing knives (dogs) to a gunfight (lions)..

I had the same reaction . . . and they refer to it as "illegal hunting" instead of poaching. Just another subtle effort to create a negative connotation of hunting.
