Broadside shot at Lion?

I have been studying my copy of "The Perfect Shot", for lion. The heart shot concerns me a little, because it looks like if you miss behind the heart you would also miss the lungs.

On my leopard I shot the shoulder, and that shot worked perfectly. Is the shoulder shot an option on lion? I hope some of ypu PHs and experianced lion hunters can shed some light on the subject for me.

I've heard a lions serenade, and danced with the Zambezi Ladies. Life is good.

Nothing wrong with a broadside shot on the shoulder for Lion - many before you have done it with successful results.
I would be more concerned about dancing with the Zambezi Ladies - life may be good but could be short

Just behind the crease and keep it below the half way line and this allows for margin of error.

Some shoulder shots have resulted in wounded Lion and this maybe due to the Lion quartering slightly or the shot was pulled and went further forward.

If you have the lungs a high heart shot taking out all plumbing and lungs is in my opinion much better
then a heart hit.
Better yet put the bullet thru the center of the chest cavity. Then follow up shot, just get cat in sights and give him another does not matter where. Bust him again.

If its "quartering" it ain't a "broadside" and it could be "quartering away or towards".
A totally different ball game don't you think?

every now and then, in the field, it's hard to tell if an animal is dead broadside or slightly quartering.....

I think DTala answered my question.

The middle of the shoulder is a killing shot but the center of the lungs is a few inches behind the crease and the target then is the size of a dinner plate.

It takes a couple of minutes but this shot will kill your Lion and makes for a comfortable follow up.

A PH's worst nightmare is a wounded Lion and therefore we are very particular when it comes to calling the shot.

If your scope has decided to beome 8" low at 80 yards it doesn't matter....unless you hit him in the ankle and then spend hours in the Jess....not a good experience...but he resides in my Great Room.....follow up on Buff is a rush, follow up on Lion is NOT!!!
