the444shootercan a 458 Win just be rechambered to a 458 Lott?
Ok, so I found some screaming deals on a Win Mod 70 Express or whatever their African rifle is, but the only problem is that they only offer it in 375 H&H, 416 Rem, and 458 Win Mag...I would opt for the 458 if it is as simple as just rechambering it to the Lott...so, is it as simple as that? Or do I have to worry about excess length or anything else with the Lott?

<holtz>Yes, it can be rechambered. Due to the shorter magazine well you will have to trim back a tad on the brass and watch you overall cartridge length. Cut down a bit on the powder load and you will be able to achieve the same velocity as with the full length cartridge. Many Lotts are build on the M-70 actions. Your 'smith may or may not have to tinker with it to get reliable feeding.

John RicksInstall the M70 magazine box for the 375 H&H/416 Rem, install the likewise follower, alter the bolt stop and ejector, and mill the rear bridge back about 0.390" to allow proper function and ejection of the longer cartridge. I have done several. If you need more info, email your questions. Not much use in chambering for the Lott if you do not accomplish the above. Good luck!

<Harry>If you do not use the Win 70 action I think you will find it much easier to use the current CZ. The mag box already big enough. All you need do is to re-chamber and make sure it feeds like you want it to.

Rich ElliottYou can do the same thing with a .458 Win. Mag. Safari Grade 700 Remington with no other changes necessary but Mac's gonna tell you not to.
