BlixenLooking for ammo belt..
If someone has hung up their ammo belt for good or don’t anticipate getting back to Africa I would love to keep making memories with one you may be inclined to pass along. I’m a 36” waist. Going for ele in the Zambezi Valley. Shooting a .375. Anyone have a belt that might fit the bill? Thanks!

Keep your magazine full and a round in each of your trouser pockets and maybe one in your hand and you will be fine

Unless you're culling (which you won't be....) you will need no more than a magazine full...

Yep.Ammo belts are for cullers or wannabe white hunters. A full rifle, a round in each front pants pocket are enough for anything other than a mass elephant herd charge. Of course it doesn’t look as cool on a hero shot picture…I always get a kick out of pictures showing the hero with a belt containing 20 rounds slung around an overweight gut and a double rifle on his shoulder. If you have time to reload a double 10 times during a charge, the animals were drugged.

SaeedI use an UNCLE MIKE ammo holder that fit on your belt.
Takes 10 and works great.
Try African Game Industries, I just bought a 10 round leather ammo holder that goes on your belt, it was $28 bucks delivered.

Another option is Murray Custom Leather. They’re a Texas based company that makes quality leather shell holders that accommodate 6, 7 or 10 rounds.

Until you get into a scrap with poachers or some irate Elephants and the odd wounded buffalo then having extra ammo on a belt is important. I find leather discolors the cartridge and rather go for a synthetic material with the bottom open so you can push the cartridge up with your fingers. I always carry a cartridge in my left hand and can reload it if I have time.

Agreed. The Murray leather carriers (and belts) are well-made and functional. Plus, they look good.
I always have more ammo on me than I think I will need.

BlixenThank you for all the comments, and advice. I also appreciate the different opinions and experience. I wasnt wild about the idea of strapping a big old belt over my shirt with rounds galore.
I did pick up a 5-round case from Africa Game Industries. Price was right. I look forward to figuring out what works in the field. Im hoping my good old Filson belt-with or without a 5-round slide- and a couple shirt and pant pockets should work fine. Thanks all!

MARK H. YOUNGBlixen,
Traditionalists will roll their eyes and groan but I put and Uncle Mikes elastic ammo holder on the butt stock of my rifle. I always know where my ammo is and it is very handy to use in the unlikely event you'll empty your magazine. They cost about $10 and when they wear out I just get another one. I don't wear anything on my belt. It's completely unnecessary.

Zephyr+1 for Murray Leather

lavacaA lot of wisdom here and I agree you don't need an "ammo belt". My main rifle has detachable 4 round magazines, so When I'm hunting where I may have to change from softs to solids, I put what I think I'll need in the rifle and carry a surplus grenade pouch with two extra magazines -- one softs and one solids. Then, I put two Murray's slides on my belt -- each carry's 5 rounds -- and I mix it softs and solids depending on the situation. Try to keep them separate to avoid confusion, but have put in a couple of solids on the end of the slide where that's not likely to be needed. That's a whole lot of ammo, more than I could ever need.
I know I carry too much ammo, but ...

ArnietI am like Mark. When I fit the butstock holder on the rifle I clip a small hole over the rear swivel stud. This keeps things from moving around. The number of rounds depends on balancing the rifle. Softs and solids can be placed as needed. You don't take the rifle down to top off, and you can see everything!

SpartanI don’t want anything hanging off my belt keeping my pants up, and other than a sling and scope, I don’t want anything else on my rifle.
I’ve got an old Westley Richards canvas culling belt that’s comfortable to wear and holds all the ammo I might need. I can’t recall carrying 20 rounds in Africa, but it’s proven handy for high volume pig shooting in Australia.
I found black permanent marker on the headstamp is useful to identify solids, or softs, in a hurry.

geoffI've got two culling belts for belted mag. cartridges. Both were made for Trader Keith in Spain and are high quality. One has a compact binocular pouch and the other for 14 cartridges.
I have used both for cull hunts in Namibia and Australia. The leather is soft and lined.
If you decide to go that route, let me know and I will send you pics.

dogcatI use the ammo slides that hold 10 rounds. I slip it over my regular belt and go hunting. I also carry 3 rounds in my right front pants pocket.

lavacaSpartan,
Like the idea of marking solids with a marker. Never thought of that. Great idea.
