patrkyhntrThe best tactic to use
Ladies and gentlemen. Please let me give you the benefit of thirty years of dealing with disruptive students in one of those horrible public high schools. During my years in those wars, I found that some students liked to do things designed to garner attention. There is not much difference between adolescent attention getters and some posters on message boards whose posts are designed to elicit an angry response. Both exhibit unacceptable behavior, and while it might feel good to fight back and confront the person posting the trash, that is exactly what the poster wants you to do. By replying and fighting him, you are giving him exactly what he wants and that is what he gets his jollies from.
The absolutely best tactic to use is the one that is the least appreciated, and that is non-reinforcement of the unacceptable behavior. If you ignore the jerks, they will go to another message board to get the kind of reinforcement of their behavior that they crave. That is my advice to you, knowing that of course, it won't be followed. These types won't ruin your message board unless you let them.
Enjoy.

ChuckWagon"That is my advice to you, knowing that of course, it won't be followed."
If one more person posts about trolls, pet peeves or trys to make things better I just might Vote for them this fall

Two things I certainly DO NOT NEED. More advice and more politicians

This is of course just MHO !

KevinNYThe ignore button needs more use, it's a wonderful tool. Problem solved.

ELKampMasterChuck,
I have little desire to get into a pissing match with you my friend; however, you appear to be shooting from the hip and we ALL could use good advice from time to time. Read Patrkyhntr's post again, that was just a little sarcasm (or fatalism) where he predicts his advice won't be followed (at least not completely). It is sound advice nontheless. Patrkyhntr is a level head and though he doesn't talk often it's worth listening when he does. I've already used the "ignore user" feature on those two "bounty hunters" that followed you over from that other site.
BTW, I've "known" Patrkyhntr for a while and he has been to Africa and taken ole Dagaboy at point blank in less than desirable circumstances -- his steel has been tested true and his advice rings the same. Good advice IMHO.
Good Luck and Good Troll Hunting,
EKM

H THope ignore works. I just added Chuck to the list.

ChuckWagonHow many posts do we need with complaints about arguments ? Jeez give it a rest. Use the ignore button what ever. I dont care if your the greatest hunter ever lets talk about that and NOT what others should or should not do. Now if you want to urinate about that feel free. Criminy. Lets just re-label it Complaint post number 10....

ELKampMasterHT,
Sigh....... ditto!

A website "armed" with 'ignore user' is a civilized website.

ChuckWagonWhat we should probably do now is start another strand about why this post should have not been posted in the African forum in the first place. Can't we just leave it alone and move on ? It seems pretty darn silly to me to think the way to resolve it and ignore it is to continue to make even more posts about the annoying posts ! It's not meant to be directed at any sigle individual. It's just MHO.

patrkyhntrThat is what I was suggesting, Kevin, and I just used my first ignore.

the_AlsatianDang Chucky, you are getting more and more touchy all the time and this one was not even directed at you!
I don't think the poster meant any harm at all. His post certainly did not seem malicious.

patrkyhntrThank you, Alsatian. It wasn't intended to be malicious, or as a slam at anyone.
