Just got the news too!
Now AR will have to wait for the hunt report, but it was an old bull!
Joyce is going to sit on the gut pile in hopes of a hyena!

Best regards, Darin

bwanamrmWell done to both.
On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Andrew, I meant, they would build a blind near the gut pile!

I think the mental picture of Joyce sitting on the gut pile better portrays her toughness!

Tell me about it. If she's tough enough to beat cancer she's tough enough to sit on a gut pile for 4 or 5 days!

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Congratulations Jim!! Now it's Joyce's turn...
Joyce was in on every moment of the Ele hunt except two afternoons. She picked the right ones to take off. One was the hottest sunny afternoon and the other was in the very thick Jesse behind the villages that made me think Buzz had us after Bongo in the Congo. Major thick stuff.
When the Elephant got shot on day 11 a young Bull with the one I shot passed Joyce at about ten feet and she didn't move.
Buzz was telling her later that was a bit too close.
Joyce responded, "Earlier you told me that motion attracted them so I just stood still".

fairgameGreat stuff and good to see that hunting elephant is not all about ivory these days and more about the whole experience.
This sort of attitude will keep hunting alive in Africa.
