Jerry HuffakerA Nice Hotel I recommend In Windheok
I have seen anyone talk about this place so I thought I would highly recommend it to everyone. We stayed there 2 nights, it's very nice, and it's just a few blocks away from's Joe's Beer House resturant.

lb404The Kalahari Sands was very nice and well situated in town for shoping.

The Kalahari Sands is a prostitute infested crap-hole. I will never stay there again.
Any place 2 blocks from Joes is Ace!

From the difference of opinion of lb404 and D99 I can tell one of them is single and one is not..........

Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent.

Blair338/378Try Casa Piccolo in Klein Windhoek, run by Claudia Horn.
It's impeccably clean and very comfortable. Great rates too.
Her family are all hunters and Joe's is 5 minutes by car

Steve MalinverniAs any fisherman try to catch fishes where he knows that these are present, these sex workers stalk and hunt where tourist (read people with money) are.
And as we say in Italy: to ask is allowed, to answer is courtesy. A new way to say sex in this case

I got a half day guided tour of Windhoek the day after my safari. I really enjoyed it, and I wish I still had that guys card. He was a nice old man, and a retired police chief.
He showed me a lot of the hotels, and took me on a nice little trip. The downtown part of Windhoek is similar to Casper, WY or Billings MT. I wasn't impressed with any part of the sands. I was quoted a $200 room when I checked in and had a tab for $400 when I checked out. To say the least I was absolutly pissed. The staff sucked, and both the bar, and the casino were full of Ovambo hookers. I wouldn't go back if it was free.
It is downtown, and downtown is super clean. The big famous church is downtown, the gardens, an open craft market (but the stores are cheaper), and a ton of stores downtown, safari, arts and crafts, books, you name it! I would rather stay near Joes and the mall. Or stay up on the hill at one of the ones that caters to hunters.
Even if I was married, or brought a long a lot of family members I would stay someplace else. It was just too much of a rip off, and prostitute infested shithole.

HarryWe have stayed at the Villa Verde and it was very nice, quite and secure. Only 13 or so rooms as I recall but you expected to see Ernest Hemmingway come around the corner of the bar at any moment. I would stay there again. We had no problems getting to Joe's either!
You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

Michael RobinsonThe Kalahari Sands is one of the best hotels in Windhoek, with ready access to the central city and a fine restaurant. We have stayed there several times.
The "casino" is laughably small and easily ignored.
The only thing the hotel was full of when we have stayed there has been German tourists.
