GanyanaAn operation to beware of
Re my post of yesterday. A PH by the name of Peter Baker has been marketing hunts in Dande concession. Problem is he has no quota and no right to operate there. He also has not sub leased any quota from Swainsons Safaris (swainson@mweb.co.zw) who are the lease holders. There are insinuations that he is operating in conjunction with Russ Broom Safaris. Not true. In the past he has bought some animals off RBS for re-sale, but he certainly is not an agent for them. Bit of a stink about this at the AIM shooters show in South Africa last month where he was caught red handed.

<allen day>That's a good warning. There seem to be a few PHs in Zimbabwe who basically recruit clients, sell hunts, then run around trying to sublease concessions. We went to a gathering this year in Vancouver, WA where such a PH was being hosted by a client. I wasn't impressed by what I heard.
This PH claimed that a client took a 66" kudu last season, yet offered no photo as proof. He had photos of a bunch of other stuff, but none of that kudu. Now wouldn't you think he'd ESPECIALLY have a photo of a hallmark trophy such as that to show clients????
Beyond that, he was hard to nail down as to exactly where he'd conduct hunts. One of my friends told him that he'd hunted before with Clive Lenox along a certain Zimbabwe river, and he asked this PH if he'd ever hunted there. The PH answered, "Yes, of course, that's one of the finest safari areas in Zimbabwe!"
On the way home, my friend laughed and said, "That guy's full of it! That river I mentioned? I made the name up. There's no such river in Zimbabwe......."

MinkmanYet another reason to be scared more of the outfitters & PH's, rather than teeth, horns, claws, tusks, and hooves.
Booking my hunt is making me feel like a UFO abductee. No one to trust and everyone humoring you.

tontoDid Peter Baker and RBS recently part ways or are you saying they never worked together?

GanyanaAccording to RBS 5 seasons ago, before Peter was registered as an operator, RBS gave him a letter of appointment For The Season, to help sell off excess quota. He has bought two hunts off them for this year. Apparently, (gossip) he is an inlaw of Russ's and there is bad blood between them these days. Don't know the truth of the matter but RBS deny he represents them in any way, shape or form and has not done so for several years.

Thanks dont know how the relationship is now. But a few years ago he more than bought a few few animals from RBS.
I know who I hunted with, who I paid, And who sent me my trophy. Must have been a close working relationship then.
things change
thanks Dean
