SpringLion pics
Here's a lion that I passed up in TZ. It seemed a bit debatable to me, but we decided this lion had to wait on one of you to go get him in 2006. I made these pics from a video I took. With our limited view, does he look too young to you?

Lorenzoyes....but I'm not an expert

But if I was there, under a burning sun, after walking for miles...I don´t know if I will be so picky, infront a computer, confortable seated and drinking something it's easier to be "ethical"

WillMaybe my software is old, but I can't see the pics.
Also interested what you used to get the pic frames off of the tape. Any advice?

RobertJrI would say "Don't shoot" only because from the pictures (video retreive) you cannot tell much other than body size. You probably had better resolution in person. I believe you made a good call. See the previous thread on ageing a lion. Not enough detail in this case.

SpringBill,
Many video cameras these days also offer the ability to take still digital pictures--at least my Sony does, and it's probably 5 years old. As the video is playing on the viewfinder, you just hit the button that will take a still shot and it will take a photo from the images that had previously beed videoed. The still shot is saved on the memory stick. If I can do it, no doubt you can!

WillI can hardly see the lion at all. It would be tough to make a call from the three pics.
Who said let's shoot 'em all and count them later?

It is a tough call in any case, especially considering trophy fees nowadays, but I wouldn't let anyone on AR tell you what to shoot or not.

safarimanDid you end up getting a Lion? From the photo's my biggest concern would be a clear shot that would not risk being deflected by foliage. You are right that it is difficult to tell age and size of mane, etc. here.
When you are but fifty feet from a beast that can stomp you into a mudpuddle or shred you into fajitas, rest assured he will have your UNDIVIDED attention!!

SpringSafariman,
No, I didn't get one. I do hope to one day!

Michael RobinsonCan't see the lion well enough to tell, which is my usual problem in the bush as well.

When in doubt, don't shoot--that's a pretty good rule to follow.
