If you're taking your rifle/rifles to Namibia for hunting you can save some time by downloading thier firearms importation form from the NAPHA website, and having it filled out when you arrive. There were 8 - 10 hunters on my flight when we arrived in Windhoek, and my friend and I had the forms filled out already. When I showed the police officer the filled out form he waived us to the front of the line, while the others filled their forms out. I have a nice clean copy I can email anyone who is interested. The one on the NAPHA website is pretty faded.

It must depend on who you have working on a particular day. When I arrived in Windhoeck (2003), they couldn't find the person who was supposed to check in the firearms import permits. It turned out he was in a room taking a nap- no shit. I had mine all filled out for both rifles I brought, he took them from me and made me fill out the same form again and sign them. You just can't tell what you'll run into when dealing with some African government officials

I am bringing 2 shotguns into Namibia as well as shotgun ammo. I am assuming that the requirements are the same for a shotgun as a rifle. We will be bowhunting for plainsgame but I want to be able to shoot some doves and guinea fowl.

I have gone into Namabia twice once at the international airport and once at Eros. At Eros I had to do my paper work over and at internaional everything was cool. You just can't plan on any thing when it comes of Africian officials.

and how manage a multiple full address in Namibia? I would like to do a tour renting a car after the hunt, for example.

And last what did you write on ID NO? What is or what does it means ID NO?

Excuse these questions, but bureucracy is alredy difficult in own country, foreign bureucracy is dramatic,

As for the address, just get a physical address of your first hunting outfitter, and that will sufice.

The I.D. number is for South African and Namibian residents who have government issued I.D. cards. You would leave that section blank.

Received a pdf file of the Namibian Firearms Permit (it's not a perfectly clear document - but is better than the other form).

I have converted it to Word format.

So, if you don't have the pdf one, then probably best to email Mike or me bunduki@sbcglobal.net to receive a copy (let us know if you want it in pdf format or Word format).

I just got back from Namibia (hunted with Boet Nel - fabulous trip). I had this NAPHA form filled out in advance (got it from Steve at Gracy Travel), and it still didn't do any good. They have me refill out the same information on a different form when I got there. It was the "same" information - but they wouldn't accept their own official form - oh well - that's Africa.

As an aside - when we left Namibia, the SAA Airlines people tried to collect $400 US from us because our luggage was "overweight". We were well under the 70lb per suitcase, but they wouldn't budge. We went out to the parking lot and started throwing clothes away to make the 30Kilo limit for domestic travel there. When we got to Afton House, Louis said that's a common ploy to get a bribe. They don't know their own rules. I would suggest that before you go - get online on the SAA website, and print the baggage regulations under "piece concept" and carry it with you. It might help to show them their own information, however, you never know.

Glad you enjoyed your hunt with Boet. As I will be handling your shipment ex Namibia, on your next trip book your luggage all the way through i.e.LAX-ATL-JNB-WDH and return WDH-JNB-ATL and I believe final destination is LAX..... saves you a lot of hassle coste effective also
