I Found Some Of Our Old Hunting Videos - Videos Have Been Added
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have found a few VHS tapes we used to video our hunts from years ago.
I am capturing them now, and will select a few clips and upload them for your enjoyment.
Walter said "Even in your younger days, both you and Roy did not look any better than you look now!"
And he wonders why Roy, Alan and me are not so nice to him!

We were actually putting a leopard bait in the same tree we shot a leoprdd out of the year before. The tree is on one side of a long grass valley.
We saw this herd of buffalo come out to feed, crossing from the other side to ours.
We left everyone to finish putting up the bait, and Roy, Alan and myself went on foot to try and get one of the bulls.

I am looking forward to the old episodes too!

How far back do these go? I think the earliest copies I've seen are from 1996.
Best regards,
Chris
I found tapes that go back to 1993.
But, 1993 was the year Walter was a video cameraman, and he made an utter bollocks of it!
We had one of the best VHS video camera, with all its bells and whistles, and Walter made full use of these.
The end results was one sees a still picture, with a tiny picture-in-picture of whatever is going on in the video.
There was no actual hunting scenes, and his lordship was not able to keep up with us.
1994 and 1995 have a few good clips I can include.
I have converted 9 videos so far, and they are being sent to our server right now.
So I hope in a few minutes I will be able to link them for you.
All animals, apart from the buffalo, were shot with a custom 270 Ackley built by my friend Dwight, on a Remington 700 action.
The buffalo are shot with a 416 Rigby Improved, also built by Dwight, on a Dakota 76 action.
I am sorry about the relative quality of the videos. I tried to make re-surrect them as best as I could.
Still, I am hoping you will enjoy them.

LOL. I can totally picture it in my mind!

The quality of the first couple converted videos is pretty good!

You and Roy don't look much different at all, with the exception of maybe one or two new grey hairs!

The waterbuck one sounds like Walter is playing with the farting machine in the background, but I think its just a rendering glitch.

Best regards,
Chris

Aye, excellent quality video-visual on the first buffalo, but is the sound volume diminished for some reason or am I going deaf?
Roy and Saeed both speak English with a British accent which sort of makes it sound like they both have marbles in their mouths to a Yankee ear.

What was so interesting about that .416 bullet?
Was that a Trophy Bonded Bear Claw?
One shot, one buffalo.

GraftonSaeed, you have been at this game for a long time.
Anyone who hunts Africa probably ends up with your chewing gum on their boots!

Thanks for posting these, I enjoyed them.
I have added a kudu clip, and will add a few more.
Thank you for the videos!!! My Africa Withdrawal is in high gear!!!

CanuckThat was pretty neat how the second impala ran towards you after getting hit. I thought it was going to make it all the way to you!
Chris,
Obviously you still have not had enough African experience.
That impala was CHARGING us!
Luckily, we were too far for him to manage to do any damage to us.
Now you know I shoot buffalo at 400 yards!

A few more clips have been added.

Now that you mention it, on reviewing the video, I think I can see the malicious and deadly intent!
There are lots of good shots on those videos clips Saeed, but the shot on Zebra #1 was fantastic!!
Are those clips the first time that Alan was videoing your hunts?
Best regards,
Chris

So it is chewing gum that produces the British accent, or is Saeed a Rhodes Scholar? Oxford? Schooled too long in U.K.?
It wasn't the University of Kentucky I am sure.

Whoopee! More clips!

Chewing gum sits just below rifles, ammo, on my list of things to have on safari.
It sure makes running around in the hot African bush all day long with no water manageable.
I found a couple of clips of Walter.
One of him shooting a buffalo, and one of him imitating Roy.
Both are "walterable" videos, and I will try uploading them today.
Saeed,
Nice Leupold cap.
I finally got to download the video clips and watch them on some decent equipment.
Some "Walterable" observations:
The audio is fine except for those farting noises on several of the clips, like Canuck said.
Actually sounds more like the creaking of a rusty VHS reel-to-reel mechanism that Walter must have failed to clean and lubricate after he dropped it in a river.
A little booboo: Impala 1 is actually a repeat of the Waterbuck. Walter must surely be to blame for this duplication.
Impala 2 is a really exciting charge!

DG!!! From 200 yards it charged toward the rifle report to within 50 yards and fell dead
That was a Walterable Impala,
now out of the gene pool, fortunately.
Walter did look better 16 years ago, than he does now, even if nobody else aged at all.

Now for that video of Walter actually killing something ...

It is coming.
I got him on video killing an old buffalo bull that predates him by 150 years!
I also have a clip of him imitating Roy - getting right down to a T.
We were driving along, and saw some kudu bulls walking in the bush.
We stopped and jumped out of the truck.
Roy put the shooting sticks up, and I positioned myself on them ready to shoot.
Then the fun started, with Roy moving the sticks and giving me instruction!
Walter was a few yards away on the truck, taking all this in.
After we had shot the kudu - I had to shoot him in the neck, as that is all I could see while he was walking in the bush. So Roy started complaining about this.
Walter got into the act, and the results were helarious.
I am afraid I cannot blame anyone for the mix up of the clips except on myself.
I had to use 3 seperate VHS players trying to get the quality up, but it seems the tapes are in a rather bad shape.
I have added a clip of Walter imitating Roy.
And I have busted a gut, laughing, again, thanks ...

Canuck
Fantastic!! Walter at his finest.

Thanks! I've saved that one.

ps: In that clip Walter looks a lot like the actor from the Dos Equis (XX) beer commercials.."The Most Interesting Man in the World". "He would not be afraid to show his feminine side, if he had one.", "His mother has a tattoo, that says 'Son'", etc, etc.

Michael RobinsonThose are good quality videos, Saeed. Lots of fun to watch.

Walter is too much.

Thanks for posting these.
Mike
Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
Glad you are aenjoying them.
I have quite a few more, and I will post them as we go along, including one one of Walter shooting an old buffalo bull!

Thanks for sharing these, and all of your, videos.
I am gradually going through all the videos to capture them on disk.
Once I have done that, I am going to re-encode all the hunting clips into better quality videos for you to enjoy.

Johnny_RevolverI watched a cape buffalo video there with headphones on and after a minute I was shooing the flies away!
Talk about a sense of place.

That is precisely why I have resisted the suggestions that we add "voice over" on our videos.
What you see and hear is exactly what was going on during the hunt.
You might enjoy watching Walter's video from 1995.
It has been added to my first post.

SagSertAlthough I'm new here it didn't take me long to figure out that Walter is indeed the most interesting man in the world. I dare speculate that he refused to act for the XX commercials and they used an actor to play him.
Perhaps we should have Walterisms to solidify his place in history.

Fantastic videos, thanks for sharing, please digitise the rest of the VHS.
Cheers

I can't believe I watched the whole thing!

LOL. Glad I wasn't the only one that sees the resemblance. I also dare say that Walter is the original most interesting man in the world.

That was done to back the rear wheels of the bakkie into the two holes, so as to lower the bed of the bakkie to aid sliding the buff up the tailgate, with a wench, I hope!
Back up the bakkie, lower the bakkie bed, and heave ho!

I got the deck back, but, it is not working properly.
I have ordered a new one, which should be here in the next 2-3 weeks.
I will add more videos then.
Sorry about all this delay.
