Most attractive African species

graybirdMost attractive African species
All:
I have been wondering what most African hunters consider to be the most attractive African game species. I guess it would all depend upon what species you have taken and also the one you consider the most valuable and most difficult to hunt. My personal choice is the nyala followed by kudu in a close second.
What do you think is the most attractive African game species?

OldsargeNyala certainly is up there. I have to give my first place vote to the gemsbok, though. Of course, if I had any hope of bongo . . .

SnakeLoverI'm with sarge...Bongo, followed by sable.
Gemsbok gets my vote as well.My wife is going to freak when my half mount arrives.

Perhaps not indigenous, but certainly attractive.
^^Hehe, she is very attractive! What type of trophy fee are we talking here?

Fusino: That's Prince Harry's squeeze so the trophy fee HAS to be astronomical. It's probably cheaper to hunt a pair of black rhinos and a hundred pound elephant. As to the original question, my vote goes to the Bongo. jorge

Personally I like the Sable, and I hope to get one in ZIM in a few weeks.
I wish I had my Nyala done in a full mount instead of a shoulder mount.

Though many plains game animals are beautiful, My favorite, animal, and to me the most hansome is a well fed Cape Buffalo Bull with a closed boss, and deep curls, standing in defiance, while looking you right in the eye, like the picture in my sig line!

Yes she is indigenous, a Zimbabwe native (now relocated to Cape Town). If only I could get her in one of those high fenced hunting areas in RSA, what a safari that would be.

Terry

I like these three in this order: sable, kudu, and gemsbok.

Naughty. Naughty. I think the east African bongo is tops. Barnhart has one in the entrance of his trophy museum. I'll try to get a picture or you can see it in "Great Trophy Rooms" volume one. Absolutely awsome.

MARK H. YOUNGFolks,
A big leopard gets my vote. A lot of animals get very crumpled looking after death but the leopard is still quite regal.

Well, that gets my vote for No. 1. Next would be bongo and mountain nyala for number three. None of the three that I can afford at this time.

TXRandyBongo and Mt. Nyala are awesome although probably forever out of my price range. From what I have taken, Nyala, Gemsbuck, Kudu, Bushbuck.

1 Kudu

3 Bongo

1 Leopard
2 Elephant
3 Buff
I would have given all the top votes to the Cape Town species but due to heightened political correctness on the forum I chose otherwise

If she is truly a "native African", then she is Darwin's worst nightmare (while being any other man's dream)! She is "indigenous" to Africa in the same way that one might consider that my Greek and Irish parents gave birth to me as a "Native American".

Jeff Wemmer1) Bongo
2) Leopard
3) Sable
JW out
For me it has to be a big bull sable as the most majestic. The first one I saw was standing on an ant hill with the front feet higher then the rear feet. It was a jaw dropping sight. Next would be a 10 1/2" + vaal rehbock.

A pair of bongos is nice.
Certainly colourful and definitely dangerous game.
However the elan of Sable, black as night, would probably be my pick.
The warrior gemsbok also has attitude.
The wildness of leopard.
No need to choose.

aktoklatNever been to Africa except in my dreams! I guess my vote won't have much weight. However, I have always admired and wanted a Black Sable 3/4 mount, my 2 cents worth.
Focus on the leading edge!
An impala in full flight about ten feet off the ground.

almostacowboyI can't believe you guys! Am I the first one to think of Charlize Theron????

2. Gemsbok
3. Bontebok

PathfinderLeopard first followed by the great cape buffalo. Although I have to admit I do like the kudu and sable and they're right up there.
Gemsbok, sable and kudu in that order, but I wouldn't quibble if someone wanted to swap them around!
17 May 2005, 01:21
NevsterOut of the antelope i'd say the Sable, closely followed by the humble Impala (they always look immaculate!!).
Out of the bigger game id go with the Buff, he may not be the most beautiful looking but a nice old dugga boy is very attractive.
Nyala
Warthog
Kudu
I have yet to see an ugly African animal.

SlingsterOverall I think the nyala gets my vote as the most attractive African species, although the bongo and Chobe bushbuck are right up there as well.

Sable because I will be hunting one in Zim. Then it has to be a Kudu.
