Hessa was doing some practice with her Anschutz 22 rifle this morning.

Target at 50 yards. This is a 10 shot group.

The 308 empty brass were at 30 yards.

The Pepsi can was at 100 yards, with a Remington 40X in 6mm Remington.

Load was a 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip at slightly over 4000 fps.

308 empties at 30 yards

Pepsi at 100 yards

She's growing up fast, Saeed. I remember the pictures of her as a toddler.

I feel old already, my oldest granddaughter turned 13 years old last month and I don't even know where the last 5 years have gone.

Starting that girl out right! clap
Olympic Champion shooters do run in the family, as well as buffalo hunters.
And then there is Uncle Walter who defies classification, or even rudimentary understanding of his behavior.

She cannot wait for her first safari, but sadly we have to wait a bit for that.

She wants to shoot buffalo, and for that she needs to shoot the 375, but not ready yet.

Also, we need to adjust our safari dates, as she is starting her secondary school later this year at the time we are hunting.

Years ago we hid her dummy while she was asleep.

When she woke up, and did not find it, she started crying. She had a mosquito bite on her face, so I told her the dummy must have been taken by the mosquito.

She looked at me and said "daddy shoot the mosquito like you shoot the buffalo"

Ever since, she wanted to shoot a buffalo.

I think the girl can shoot. Suspect it might have had something to do with her teacher.

I can remember teaching my daughter, Ammie, to shoot. She wanted to start with handguns, so I let her with a .22lr revolver. She went so fast up the caliber chain, I was dumbfounded. These little girls can surprise you!

Saeed: We share similar tastes in firearms. I too own a Remington 40X, except in .223, and I own TWO Anschutz .22's: a 1407 standard rifle and a 64 for plinking. Having shot for the All Army Rifle Team for a number of years in the early 1970's, they gave me a generous supply of Lake City Match .308 ammo. which I shoot out of two M1A's (the civilian equivalent of an M-14). I had them built by Al Ewing, one of the All Army Rifle Team armorers, using civilian Springfield Armory receivers and air-guaged Douglas Ultra Match barrels. They're both tack drivers, as are the 40X and the Anschutz rifles.

Bud,

Hess's first gun that she shot was a Ruger 10/22 that belonged to my father.

It was a very old rifle I gave to him years ago. He used to carry it with him wherever he went in the dessert.

It was quite rusty, and the stock had seen better days.

I changed the barrel and stock for her, and she enjoyed shooting it.

I have decided to keep that rifle as a memory of my father, so I have just assembled a new Ruger 10/22 for her.

The action I had here for many years - it was given to me by Steve Vogel, who was at Ruger - he was married to Bill Ruger's daughter.

A wonderful man I have known for many years. And I have stayed at his home when I was visiting in the US.

I put a Valquharson barrel on and a Brown Precision stock. I also changed the trigger spring and hammer for her.

The original factory trigger broke at over 7 pounds. This one is a touch over 2 pounds.

The stock is plain grey, and I told her she can choose whatever colour she wishes for it, and she can paint it herself.

She is very thrilled to be part of the "gun making" family, and we will paint it as soon as she finishes her exams.

I have one Springfield M1A, and shoots absolutely great.

She's a shooter for sure. Soon she will be a hunter, it sounds like.
