BigFiveJackINCREASE SIZE OF MAGAZINE???
I have asked on other forums and struck out, so please excuse this.
I have a Dakota Arms
Model 97 in .375 H&H.
It holds 4 total, 3 in the mag.
Anyone know any good smith who can give it a bigger box, even if it had to hang out of the bottom, like the classic Westley Richards boltaction rifles that have those protruding mag boxes?
Thanks for any info.

shakariAny good riflesmith should be able to make you one of those without too much trouble. A client (actually much more of a friend!) of mine made one for my .500 last year. He's a scientist not a riflesmith but he made a pretty nice job of it.......and it works brilliantly.
You might also like to ask Alf who posts here as he may well know someone who would have it as a stock item.....

LJSMy gunsmith built a drop box for a Ruger 458 Lott to hold 5 or 6 rounds. He finally got it to work but felt feeding became a problem with that many belted cartridges. I think he charged $200 for the conversion. I would think going to a Rigby style floorplate would work picking up 1 extra. I always felt 3 plus 1 was enough.

retreeverJack,
I would stay with the way it is...As a backup DGR you will have only time for 1 or two shots if a charge happens...

AndyI would personally like to have 4 down plus one for the simple reason you will usually load from the magazine as you get out of the safari car, and you now have 3 + 1.
I had just 3 rounds with my 450 Dakota on a CZ action and had to reload one after missing my head shot on elephant last november.
Scenario was this. Shot #1, just in front of brain, #2 into hip as she turned around, #3 into head front on a bit high, RELOAD one, #4 neck, and dead.
Then I got chased off a termite hill by the matriarch with an empty rifle.
4 + 1 is worth the money I think.

BigBulletShakri,
That is very sharp job! I see your gunsmith put the bolt and cheekpiece opposite of where they should be though.
