Al KidnerBushbuck in the Caprivi, Namibia
Hi guys,
I'm wanting to do some homework on the Bushbuck numbers in the Caprivi area of Namibia. I am planning to head back sometime in the next few years and I'd like to be able to hunt them, free range with a bow. Naturally with a PH of course...

Al is one of the most passionate, dedicated traditional bowhunters I know.
Good luck in your quest, mate!

Al KidnerThanks Benny!
Thats a hard one to answer Fairgame. As mentioned above, my wife and I are planning on heading back to Namibia, where both of us will hunt. Her with a rifle and myself with a bow.
I don't really prescribe to the idea of having a list as such when in Africa, more so I'll take whatever is on offer at whatever will give me a good shot selection for a good, clean kill.
That being said, Bushbuck is very high on my dream hunts and if I spent 10 days hunting a free range animal then so be it. To add in also, in those say... 10 days of hunting, I'd not pass up a shot at a nice Kudu bull, another good warthog, nor any of the Tiny Ten (Ive shot 2 good warthogs and a nice steenbok on past hunts). I just like the idea of trying to out smart a bushbuck ram, on foot and in that game of 'chess' called hunting.
Naturally, not all PH's and hunting operations want guys like me as the dollar signs are freely flowing... and I am OK with that. I also am aware that there are better places to hunt bushbuck with higher numbers like over in the Eastern Cape of SA.

Texas Blue DevilI'm not sure I'd go to the Caprivi if bushbuck is a priority.
First off, I love the Caprivi. I've shot 5 elephants and few more buffalo in the Caprivi. During my hunts, we were absolutely covered up with Elephant, Buffalo and Hippo too. I've also seen a lot lechwe, reedbuck and waterbuck. However I've only seen 2 bushbucks in the Caprivi, and both for just a couple seconds.
On one of my elephant/buffalo hunts, we attempted to dedicate an evening to hunt bushbuck in some real thick jess along the water. After about an hour and a half, we gave up because we kept bumping into herds of elephant cows at real close quarters. On that particular evening the elephant cows were extremely agitated. Even though we didn't see a bushbuck, it was a bit more exciting than most bushbuck hunts.
Go Duke!!

Still do not really understand why you are going to the Caprivi but good luck and look forward to hearing all about it.
