Matt PortchProud Father
I just returned from a 8 day hunt in Namibia with my 20 year old daughter. Her first hunting trip. (Trip report coming soon as well).
On a previous trip to South Africa about half way through the hunt she mentioned that she thought she would like to try it. We went to the range, and after some practice she got a nice impala.
Upon our return home she said she would like to go back, so 3 years later we headed to Namibia for her first real "hunt". She did great, shot well, took Kudu, Springbok, Hartebeest, and Warthog. Also her composure, safe gun handling and ethics impressed me tremendously.
She shot and wounded a gemsbok the first day, and after a day of looking for it we finally gave up. The PH offered for her to shoot another, and she declined, as she wanted to take the full responsibility for her actions and less than good shot. I was so impressed and proud.
After our return she wrote a nice article about hunting and our trip on her blog (

Couldn't be more proud!

Jan Dumona very proud Father indeed. And rightly so !
The young lady is clearly mature beyond her age.
Looking forward to the report.

30.06kingA very intelligent, thoughtful and insightful piece from a young lady moved to express an honest view developed from first hand experience. I am highly impressed and I think there could be a lesson here for many so called journalists and politicians.
Congratulations. With such talent I predict your daughter will go far.

Matt PortchThanks 30.06king. I appreciate the nice words about her article. I was impressed how quickly she "got it" about hunting, but I am fairly biased....

AFRICAN LEADWOODI'm not picking up the story at the link posted. I hope it wasn't necessary to remove it due to unwelcome responses.
It sounds great either way, but I would like to read the account from the hunter (huntress). Take some credit for how you taught and raised your daughter too Matt.

30.06kingHi African Leadwood
Click on the link under "Matt" which worked for me. Clicking on the link within the text above took me nowhere. It's worth reading.
