G L KrauseHate Mail and the General Public
After seeing the post about the ignorance of the general public, I thought you might enjoy a brief look into the mind of the animal rights crowd. I am the founder of an organization dedicated to crow hunting called "Crow Busters", which may or not may not appeal to you, but what you might find interesting is some of the hate mail we have received over the years. It really gives you a look into some of the violent and crazy notions these kooks have, even over a generally unliked animal such as a crow. Imagine the mail we would get if we started something called "Elephant Busters"! Maybe Saeed can give it a try next April 1st.

shakariWe've had a few odd buggers contact us over the years but nothing like some of those weirdos........ loved your riposts though!

I came back from Africa and became ill upon arrival here in the states, so I've been bedridden for six days.
Today I read this thread and this guy's responses to the hate mail he gets and discovered I've still got enough strength to laugh. I love it!
I wish I could fire off responses like he does.

shakariSue,
Sorry to hear you've been sick.....was it tick bite fever by any chance?
In case you might still have others on you, try showering a time or two with dog tick and flea shampoo instead of shower gel........

It has been a while since I have read those. Good to see the new ones. Reading those wackos makes me glad I was raised up as a hunter from a young age.
I hunt, not to kill, but in order not to have played golf....

nkonkaMakes me wish I had kept the ones i get.
The one that gave me pause was one from a fellow in Detroit. Received it in 1999. It contained a bunch of dried herbs and such, along with a brown powdery substance. The note said it was voo-doo deal and I was now cursed. If it came after the anthrax crap i would have crapped my pants.

billrquimbyFrom 1967 to 1994, I wrote a twice-weekly column for our local Gannett newspaper and received hundreds of similar hate letters, including several that included death threats I didn't take seriously.
There was an exception, though. It came in response to a eulogy I wrote for a popular Tucson taxidermist. Among the 50 or so letters to the editor that column brought were the expected "how could anyone write good things about someone with that kind of occupation" was one that went something like this:
"Praising such a man who did such awful things to animals was the final straw. I have bought a sniper rifle and learned where you live. I will follow you from your home when the deer hunting season opens and kill you on your killing fields, just as you have killed God's defenseless creatures."
I live outside Tucson, so I took the letter to our sheriff, who told me there was no way I could be protected if the guy wanted to kill me. Fortuntately, the creep did not try to make good on his threat.

Magnum Hunter1It is amazing that, I'll call them people, can speak that highly of an animal and so cruelly to another human being. Misguided compassion, and I'll admit I am no bleeding heart.

Wendell ReichHow is it that someone shooting Crows gets more hate mail than someone selling Elephant hunts?
I am jealous.

buffybrI just spent the past couple of hours enjoying your "Hate mail" link.
I liked your responses, however, I didn't see a response to this statement by "Death to CB":
quote:
If people like you arent stopped the entire crow population could be wiped out. What will you do then, shoot deer? I dont even think thats legal yet.
Does that mean that for the past 45 or so years I have been illegally shooting deer on licenses I purchased from the Colorado and Montana Game and Fish Departments?

NavalukThanks for posting those incites into the minds of mostly my fellow americans.
Where do I turn in my pasport and flag?

adrookThat was pretty entertaining. I used to love to shoot the bastards when they were feeding on the ground with my .243 groundhog gun loaded up with 60gr Sierra HPs, they just explode in a cloud of feathers.

Andrew McLarenG L Krause,
Thanks for sharing the link. Priceless responses!

I've just created a new file for Favotites: Have a laugh a day! Your Hate Mail link is there. I'm going to enjoy it for a long time! Unfortunately I tend to cheat and read more than one a day!

In good hunting.

G L KrauseMRLEXMA, thanks for reminding me about that response. It makes me realize I need to come out with a line of custom T-shirts for AR. Just send a check and the name of the animal of your choice and you could express your inner personality perfectly.

PenetraterEver notice how they love to use that term (You, as well as EVERY other hunter are cowards! )
And how they love to spray red paint on little old rich ladies wearing fur coats,
Yet you never see them do that with bikers wearing leather jackets ?? go figure !

sdirksThe animalista mentality has always completely baffled me. If someone chooses not to hunt because he's squeamish, but doesn't object to my doing so, that's cool with me. If someone thinks it's cruel to kill animals and therefore won't eat meat (or wear leather, etc), well, we have a difference of opinion, but I can respect it. But the real nuts, the PETA and HSUS people of the world, are another thing altogether.
I am a prosecutor, representing the state in criminal cases, and the very most unpleasant cases we get assigned are those involving cruelty to animals. I would rather prosecute a case involving the sexual assault of a child than another animal case. The reason why is because of the incredible public attention (and subsequent misinformed public opinion about how I am doing my job) that such cases generate.
About ten years ago, when the internet was just starting to take off and before we had e-mail in our office (thank God!) I prosecuted a case where a guy, by his own admission, "relieved stress" by strangling and mangling cats-- usually after he had "had his way" with them. Sometimes he saved the resulting carcass in the freezer. He also beat up the family's puppy and taped its mouth shut before sealing it up in a plastic bin. This was a very sick individual. I charged him with the maximum crimes allowed under state law, which gave him 12 years prison exposure (he eventually got all of that). One would think I'd be seen by the animal rights community as a hero, right? No. Somehow the rumor started flying around cyberspace that I was going to "let this fiend off with a slap on the wrist" (as if it was my call and not the judge's anyway!) I got over 1000 letters, phone calls, faxes and postcards from all over the world telling me how awfully I was handling this case.
Guess how many such communications I have received from the general public regarding the dope dealers, child molesters and gang-bangers I've gotten over my sixteen years in this business? I could count them on one hand. The animalistas are just blind zealots where animals are concerned, but don't seem to give a s**t about people.

HarrisI am actually sorry to read most of those letters. We need a background check and waiting periods before buying a tool but these individuals get a free license to breed?

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.
-Seth Peterson
