A.DahlgrenStriped Hyena
Anyone hunted striped hyena in Tanzania ? Is it on a 21 days permit ? what areas ?

ledvmIf you are into hyena…there is a unique opportunity to hunt a brown hyena in the Bubye Valley Conservancy of Zimbabwe. They have one or 2 on quota and have become lousy with them. I would virtually guarantee success. If importation to the US was doable…I would have taken one in August there.
Nigel Theisen would be a great choice to hunt one with there. PM me if you want any more info.

Kilombero North Safaris have taken quite a few of them in recent times. Their area in Masailand is well known for these critters

Thanks Lane.
Brown and spotted and even aardwolf I have already taken on several trips. Would have been nice to see the striped one. Dont think I have seen anyone in any hunting reports during the years.

I know of 2 taken in Natron this year. When I hunted Ngaserai and Natron it was offered in both areas. I did not spend any time hunting them which I do regret.

safari-lawyerI do not think Stripe Hyena is routinely on a 21 day permit - or at least it wasn't in 2019. I saw three on the last evening of the hunt. They were tussling over a giraffe femur as we drove up on them - oblivious to our presence. As we were making a plan to de-bus and clap, the Game Scout pointed out that striped hyena was not on my permit.

lavacaI've hunted them in Masailand. 21 day license. I get the outfitter to put everything on it (it doesn't cost extra), but have had one instance where we had to check the license when I found a Western Wildebeest where he definitely shouldn't have been that time of year. He was on license and is on my office wall as I type this.

lavacaA. Dahlgren,
Sent you a PM and got a bounceback, so sent another. Let me know if you don't get it. I tried for striped hyaena once with no luck, but had a huge masailand leopard come in. Not on license that trip.
