Join me for "mini-prep" for DG
This is off topic, I guess, so excuse me if I err..

I love to hunt bears. Anybody want to go with me to northern Manitoba this June and fly out to my "special" lake and take a good black bear... that is between catching 42" pike on a fly rod until you get tired of catching the suckers. It's really remote (a float plane trip, etc.), in 15 years I've just about always taken a good bear and the guys I go with are great.

It ain't cheap, but it is a real wilderness experience. E-mail me at properfistmele@hotmail.com if interested. BTW, I have no financial state in the hunt, except I'll drink the heck out of your whiskey if you don't hide it. I usually hunt with a longbow or recurve, but this would be a good hunt for a double rifle or a .375 H&H, too. Here is a picture of the last bear I took:

I promise these bears can scare the poop out of you and get you ready for a DG hunt in Africa.

You fly out of Lynn Lake, Manitoba. If you want me to steal it, bring single malt Scotch. Cost may well be negoitable with owner... between 2 and 3K. Talking the owner into a price you can live with is up to you. Usually it's 3.5K turn key. You hunt and fish for 7 full days. The lake we've chosen this year is a part of a multiple drainage system of hundreds of thousands of acres... maybe 200 miles of shoreline to hunt??? I'll post another picture of a bear later. You'll have access to a 14ft. Lund and a fishing guide to share with me (or one of the other fellows).

Believe it or not, it is a product of Gilbert Archery, a company I had back in the mid to late 80's. With the advice of G. Fred Asbell and others, I designed that particular model bow and even built the first of several other different designs/models. When demand got commercial, I then had Owen Jeffery build the rest in Columbia, SC. I was pretty darn successful in selling them, but I had to decide whether to become fulltime or not. I quit, alas.

The particular bow shown is 70#'s at 28" and flicks a heavy arrow very well. I use Magnus broadheads and vary from aluminum to cedar, depending on the quality of shafts I can find.

I also enjoy (though I haven't done it in a while) building selfbows from yew, hickory, osage, etc.

Nice bears Judge! With the fishin' an all it sounds like a heckuva good time.

I like the looks of your recurve. I have always wanted to take a black bear with mine (Chekmate). Have had plenty of opportunity (bears galore where I live), but just never dedicated the time (time off being limited and much coveted in the fall particularly).

Cheers,
Canuck

The "Judge" I believe has taken more pope & Young black bears with a traditional bow than anyone alive. He is not only a great hunter, great shot but also one of the nicest man you will ever meet!

Not the biggest pike in the world, but pretty respectable for a mid-weight flyrod and a self tied streamer.
