JVinAKFeminism and Hunting
Warning to John The Greek - clicking on this link would involve patronizing townhall.com, which may violate your conscience. But read this and tell me that you didn't laugh at least once.

Michael RobinsonThanks for the link to an excellent and thoroughly satirical critique of an idiotic article and its authors.
Ecofeminist scholarship is indeed an oxymoron.
It is astonishing that these pretentious academic nitwits actually take themselves seriously, that anyone would publish their tripe, or that anyone else would read it.
Here are some examples of ecofeminist "scholarship" from the bibliography of the subject article, "Animals, Women and Weapons: Blurred Sexual Boundaries in the Discourse of Sport Hunting" (the titles alone, much less the subtitles, are hilarious):
"Violent love: Hunting, heterosexuality, and the erotics of men's predation"

"The sexual politics of meat: A feminist-vegetarian critical theory"

"Neither man nor beast: Feminism and the defense of animals"

"Reading the trophy: Exploring the display of dead animals in hunting magazines"

I particularly love the authors' citation of an article from
Traditional Bowhunter:
"Penetration for Dummies"
Perhaps they should have read that last one more closely.

MarteriusCheck out not only the full article but the website of
http://www.psyeta.org as well.

Last year I saw some other paper published in that journal with a description of hunting as being a part of the male cult of necrophilia. It seems like eco-feminists make ordinary deep-ecologists look almost normal.

JVinAKDo you think I can get a grant to read hunting magazines? Although I have to admit, I couldn't make up an article that ranks so high on the unintentional comedy scale if I tried.

JohnTheGreekI don't think its surprising that the language of sex makes it's way into the language of hunting. Both activities are, after all, adored by men and we simply view the world differently.
Best,
John

CunninghamWhat I see are 3 women who need to get a life. They are all 3 sexually frustrated and need to find another avenue for their self fullfillment.
So since they find the bow hunter to be using the arrow as a extension of their manhood what would you call the happily married women I sent to Africa this past summer on a bow hunting safari?

Aspen Hill AdventuresThere are a lot of messed up people in the world.
As it is, I am planning for next year's hunts now, they will include flinging some 'sharpened sticks'.
