Hi leopard, very sorry to hear about your dog, it is always painfull to lose a man's best friend. Cobras and puff adders are really quite a problem with pets in Africa. They are generally the most common venomous snakes in many areas and dogs will instinctively bark at or try attack and protect others from the risk. Our 'neighbours' two houses down in a suburb lost 3 dogs in the space of a few years due to snouted cobras. We had several over the years in our garden, and if you are out in the bush, the number of snake encouners goes up exponentially. Snakes and ticks aside there are the other very real risks for dogs like leopard and crocs and even large eagles like crowned or martials if you have smaller dogs living with you in the bush, so it can sometimes be quite a tough life for dogs when you live on a farm or out in the bush.
