gunbugWhy no Africans with guns?
Hi:I watch hunting and fishing shows about Africa and i notice the local people are getting chewed and stomped by big animals and none of them seem to have guns for protection or food gathering.Maybe if they hunted crocks like they do aligators in the US less people would get chewed. Just curious. Dan

GeorgeSSome (most?) African governments do not trust their populace with firearms, so they restrict possession to police/military/ruling party.

eurocentricHaving lived in just about every continent, very few places are citizens allowed to legally own firearms. We have it good here, for now...

RIPGeorgeS,
In heaven, the cooks would be Greek, and the lovers would be French, not the other way around. You got that pair crossdressed!!!
The rest I concur with.
Botswana does not allow handloading, and even a professional hunter, whether native son or immigrant, is limited to three rifles only.
Must be tough for the private citizen to own even one firearm.
It is good to see more black PHs getting established lately, like Augustine an appy in Tanzania on Saeed's Expedition 2010.
Soon to be Sir Augustine.
He did come from a family tradition of hunting, taught by his Father starting at age 7 years, near his home, Morogoro, a town just north of the Selous.
They used rifles.
He started with a 30-06 on impala and graduated to buffalo with a .375 H&H, IIRC.
Sir Augustine spoke of teaching his own son the hunting ways, seven-years-old seems to be his family's tradition.
Augustine's father is a professor in New york, and returns to Tanzania on holiday to hunt buffalo and such, with his son.
They would be "The Great Black Hunters?"
I call myself "The Not-So-Great White Hunter."

GeorgeSRIP,
I'm an American of Greek extraction, so I picked the choicest job for my people.

WillBetween the snares and the guns there is not a animal or bird alive in many parts of Africa. If you start handing out guns with the bibles I stand a better chance of killing an elephant in my backyard than in Africa.

Also, besides being illegal guns are expensive.
I resent the idea that I can be sacrificied willy nilly any old day, but it seems to conform nicely with the national security concerns of just about any African country.

Think of the carnage that would likely have taken or be taking place in those troubled Arab states.

Think of the carnage that could have been prevented if the characters perpetrating a Darfur had to think of getting some body parts they valued shot off.

JCS271The WELL ARMED American population is the main reason that no country has ever given any serious thought to invading us.
I could not even imagine the carnage that would be inflicted upon foreign soldiers trying to march through my little town let alone them trying to function in the winter in our mountains. It would make the movie "Red Dawn" look pretty damn tame!

Pay that forward!
