Moving guns to RSA
I am likely to move to RSA as a temporary resident for 7-8 months each year. Does anyone know about import procedures for largeish (by UK standards - not US!) battery of guns? I am thoroughly familiar with temporary SAPS forms but info. on a more permanent importation is not easy to find.
Grey skies, 14C and raining on June 3 does give a rather jaundiced view of life in Blairistan. After 51 years I've had enough.

Robert,
Lack of response here is directly proportional to your lack of joy in learning the situation on guns there. New South African gun laws have passed and implementation is beginning with results so bad, according to a South African serious gunsmith friend, that dealers are going out of business because it takes so long to license a gun that no one wants their money tied up indefinitely.
Strongly suggest you do a google, get hold of one of the senior figures at MAGNUM magazine and the South African Gun Assn. (SAGA) and take advice on how to proceed.
Regards, Tim

Robert,

I don't blame you wanting to do a bunk out of the UK - I did it and it would take a team of horses to drag me back.......

The easiest way to do it would be to either get an extended holiday visa before you come to Africa and then contact the CFR and ask them to grant you a temporary firearms licence that will last for the duration of your visa.

Another option would be to book a hunt here so that you can come is as a visitung hunter and then sort it out from here.

Alternatively and probably the best option is for you to contact the CFR from there and ask the best way to do it.

You can contact the right people by calling +27123536181. Ask for Mrs Robertson or Mr Selous. Both are very helpful - but very busy, so don't expect miracles.....
