It can be as big a challenge to hunt small as well as large game species. I have heard of the small or little five(or ten)and I am curious.

1) What species would you say this list consists of?

2) How big are these animals(weight)?

3) What is a representative horn length for the species you list?

Yes, Pictures would be great on this thread - Please show us your hunt photoes and/or you mounts.

If it is 5 species then it seems to change depending on who you speak to or what region you hunt it (which will dictate species occurence and availability).
In SA I was always under the impression it was Grey, red and Blue duikers, steenbok and klipspringer but if you leave out Suni and the two greysbok (Cape and Sharps) you leave out three of the toughest to hunt. Hence the tiny 10 seems more appropriate.... add oribi and a huntable species of dik dik?

What do other think. Peter Flack writes about the tiny 10 in 'Heart of an African Hunter', which I have unfortunately not read!

There appears to be a variety of opinions about what constitutes the sought after small antelopes. I have been seeking them out for a while. The following is a picture of the moutain reedbuck, vaal rehbok(with beads), and Springboks (white, black, Kalahari, and Common) which are included in the tiny group in RSA.



The picture below is of the really small ones, counter-clockwise from the top: Klipspringer, Oribi, Cape Grysbok(center), Blue Duiker w/ Caracal, Bush Duiker, and Steenbok.



Lastly, is an East African Dik Dik, which was taken in Tanzania on my 2005 trip:



This leaves Damara Dik Dik, Red Duiker, and Suni which I hope to pick up over the next couple of trips which should include most of the pygmy antelope on most list. Kudude

Everybody has their thoughts as to the "tiny" group. Personally I view the following as to my knowledge they are the 10 smallest antelope in southern africa. Duiker - common, blue and red (3) Grysbok - Cape and Sharpes (2) Klipspringer, Orbi, Steenbok and Suni all of the afor mentioned in RSA and lastly the Damara DikDik in Namibia. I believe these are the smallest. Expand to 12 and add Southern Mt Reedbuck and the Vaal Rehbok, continue on and add the 3 color phases of Springbok and the you could add the Kalahari Springbok. If one wants the whole of Africa then the list of forrest duikers and other Dik-Dik species takes into another world. C Boddington has an article in the current of Safari or Sports Afield sorry I was reading both last evening and don't remember which mag. the article was in - you know the age thing.

Yes, that is a blue duiker.
That is a pic my employer at the time took.
We used to catch blue duiker to sell live to
other parts of the country. This little guy got so tame that he would eat fruit out my hand.

I saw Ganyana mentioned Roy Ludick in onother post. Strangely enough Roy did his thesis on the Blue Duiker while studying, and had a few collared on our farm at the time.

Does anyone have a picture of a Suni or an Oribi they've taken?
