Tough Question.
For those who live in Africa, or frequent it more than I do, How would you rank in popularity the 300 win mag, 30-06, and 270 winchester?

On a scale of 10 -- 1, 1/2 and 1/4 respectively. Are you kidding? These are deer cartridges. Whitetails at that.

Ummmm... interboat, what are you talking about? Big bores are not the only cartridges in African countries. So I wanted to see a rank of most popular small bores (.308) and under.

I have and use both the 300 win mag and the 3006 but would say the 3006 is more popular here in Zambia

I would say that the cartridges you listed are all quite popular here in Africa. The .30-06 being very popular. The .300 Win Mag is one of the more popular (and useful) .300's, and the .270 is very popular among resident hunters.

Interboat, keep in mind that far more people are shooting game that is "whitetail" sized than elephants over here.

interboat,

When I did plains game in the RSA in the eastern cape my Ph carried an 06.. The ranch owner who was going hunting on another property after I was leaving to the northern part of RSA was taking his son and their battery of rifles consisted of a 270 and an 06... A 300 win mag does not make up if you can't hit the target...Accuracy is more important just shooting a big gun... IMO

I've seen both 30-06 and 7 MM Rem in Africa in use by locals.

that's easy enough:

30-06
270
300 Win...

The 300 H&H is a very popular round in all of Africa today as it was a century ago...

Thanks JR, Ray and others. I was trying to get a feel as to which was/is more popular with the locals or PH's, a 30-06 or some specific 300. Thanks for the info.

I don't think so, interboat.
