Thank goodness for science and studies. How would we ever know porcupines are not to be fooled with?

In 2014 at the Harare airport I saw a postcard with the picture of a partially eaten porcupine and a dead leopard next to it with a quill sticking out of the cat's chest. There was no notation of what had happened but one would have to guess that the cat slowly bled to death from a punctured lung while eating the porcupine.

I saw this tiger in Kabini / Nagarhole in 2017. The cat was very skinny and had pink healing scars in its front paw.

So...... We should kill all the porcupines to save the poor lions and tigers?

Nakihunter, did you notice the lower jaw of that tiger being a bit crooked showing the lower left canine? Could be those two quills causing that. Where those quills are imbeded it must be very painful for the cat to bite down.

Yes I saw that. But it could very well be another quill broken off.

She ( I presume it is a trigress from the structure of the head) was walking normally with no obvious limp and I presume she was eating reasonably.

My first tiger sighting was in 1979 and after 38 years this was incredible. She walked right past our safari vehicle at about 10 feet distance.
